Is it bad that I don't like Rock/Metal from after 1990???

Post by Mamberg Jr »

I feel like an Elitist Prick, but I just Have not heard anything that I like (Except Toxic Holocaust). One of my friends is really into death metal, Like Cannibal Corpse, Death (There early stuff is alright), etc. The only Death metal I like is possessed, but again, they were an 80's band. He's always saying I'm closed minded and such... Y'all got anything that came out after 1990 that I may like??? I'm into Old school thrash, but like, early stuff. Idk why, but stuff like Kill 'em all and KIMB is my shit. Not a huge fan of Megadeth after Poland and Gar left, and Kill 'em all is the only Metallica album I can fully listen to... Ride the lightning is alright, but I'm not a fan of the songs like Creeping death and fade to black. Master of Puppets, Battery is my favorite, Orion, Sanitarium, and MOP I can listen to, but I drown out after a minute. Maiden I liked the Paul Dianno days, but I thinks that's more of a Clive Burr thing than A Dianno thing. It is super annoying that I only like music from that time period. Even rap if I ever listen to it, I really only like early NWA, and the early LL Cool J. I feel like an absolute asshole for not liking newer stuff, because any music I write is "Newer". Will I hate the shit I write  ???

Troll thread or no; I just re-remembered this. Which is a good thing. :rawk:

Metal is still best when it's walking the fine line between catchy, technical and heavy. When any of those attributes get too much attention; I feel like the music suffers. Blasts are great and all; but sometimes things go too far for my tastes.

Hopefully your musical tastes expand because if you only like pre-1990 music, you're in for a long boring life listening to the same songs for the next 70 years. There's so much new, amazing music. Not to mention the music from the last 27 years.

Believe me, when you're 14, you don't really know what you like. You still have a lot to experience, a lot to learn, a lot to develop, and a vast palette of music to experience. Good luck in your journey, there's a ton of things to explore.

Exactly, hence why I said you have a lot to experience. Life is long and full of beautiful and ugly things. You'll find what you like. When I was your age, I was listening to MC Hammer and C&C Music Factory. Things change.

 Top 40 here too. My tape collection could fit in one hand and consisted of Bon Jovi, Paul Simon, Michael Jackson, and a few other randoms. I mainly just listened to the radio.

I had friends who would only listen to stuff from the 70s and I always thought they were kind of lame. Like that stuff is good and all, but how many times can you hear the same shit?

I pretty much only like music made between August 1966 and May 2003. I am always open to new music like Tyr, Gojira, Volbeat, Clutch, Red Fang and others, it's just that I don't like 99% of what I hear post 2003.

I know you aren't serious because everyone knows that no good music was released in June of 1957.

There's just sooo much out there. However, if you can't listen to the later Death or MOP, I don't know if there's any helping you.

For thrash, you need to look more into Testament, Kreator and Revocation, anyhow.

Don't forget Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Chuck Berry, James Brown and Ray Charles. Elvis had Jailhouse Rock and All Shook Up. Just none of it in June.

I've come up with my own algorithms* for these sorts of things, and I've concluded with totality, finality, and impunity, that 1980 was the worst year for hard rock music.
