STPs new singer is Jeff Gutt

Post by ZEEGLER »

And by the sounds of it, they made a good choice.

I am pleasantly surprised. :snax:

Oh yeah? I used to play tennis with his brother Cat before that world went all fake plastic. He was a chill dude, unlike his brother Beer. After four years of college, I could not get rid of that guy. It was like we were connected at the hip; he was always around me. Their brother Rot is possibly the worst bartender. His drinks may leave you feeling sick for days.

Are the DeLeo brothers under some contractual obligation to continue to play as STP?

I get it. Not an STP fan beyond Purple ( ) and a few songs here and there. I absolutely loathed the Weiland unappreciated junkie singer schtick. Which obviously wasn't a schtick. I can understand them carrying on with the same name but I don't have any sort of past fandom to cling on to. Bennington was, to me; an atrocious fit. At least stylistically. I don't think this guy could do any worse than that but I am not going to give it a listen beyond probably this first go round so :idk:

It's $200,000 to book Korn and $10,000 to book Jonathan Davis. You can book Vince Neil for $30,000 and Tom Morello for $10,000. Those guys used to earn a lot more than that. My guess is they want to keep getting big paychecks.

I have to admit, I'm actually very impressed with the quality of his vocals. Certainly a much better fit than Chester.

People like Korn???? I wouldn't pay 2 bucks to see them. :nlisten:

Look man, I LOVED STP's first album, even the two that followed it. I would guess that most casual listeners of music associate the lead singer as the face of the band. STP was awesome and ground breaking in 1991, completely sucked by 2001 (thanks heroin), found a way to suck even harder by 2011, and now they are at it again. I'm not sure ANY promoter would want to pay them what they were pulling down when they were actually relevant to popular music. Look at the Doors, those guys tried to keep that band going for 50 years after Morrison's death, but it never worked without Mr. Mojo Risin. :idk:

Hell yeah, sounds awesome.

STP changed their name to Talk Show for a while when Weiland was off in rehab or something. The way I see it the Deleos contribute just as much to STP as Weiland did. Really up to them if they want to keep the name or not.

Cautiously optimistic, but the guy sounds good. If you haven't already, check out Army of Anyone. Great project with Richard Patrick (Filter) and the DeLeo boys - will show you EXACTLY how much contribution the DeLeos had to STP. Damned good stuff.

Local guy.. Never heard of him, but I am not in the know..

Big shoes to fill. I guess it's important to get a guy to be able to cover your back catalog because he does sound like Weiland..

I don't think so. They've worked their whole lives to build their name and I don't think they should lose it just because one of them fell into the drug trap. They obviously still have a lot of good music in them and it does sound like STP, so I am ok with it. :)

Alice in Chains, GWAR and Journey have recently found second lives with new singers. Also Van Halen, AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Arch Enemy, Helloween, Exodus, Killswitch Engage, Iced Earth, Cannibal Corpse, Anthrax, the Dropkick Murphys, King Crimson,Styx, Chicago, Black Flag, the Vandals, Survivor, Three Days Grace, Faith No More, Genesis, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple all replaced lead singers.

And then there are The Doors, INXS, Foreigner, Bad Company, Yes, Judas Priest, Boston, 10,000 Maniacs, the Dead Kennedys, Live, the Misfits, Blind Melon, the Velvet Underground, Queen and Lynyrd Skynyrd where they all definitely went several notches down with their new lead singers. Hard to imagine in the case of INXS where they sucked to begin with.

I'm not a big fan of line up changes when it's just people bickering. It's like come on... You guys have a good thing going! Get it together!!

But in this case, what other option do they have? The guy is dead. Should they lose everything they held build because of it? I don't think so and I wish them success. I'm sure that was not their first option or even choice. Addiction is hard on everyone around it, I'm sure these guys suffered plenty and there's nothing better than music to heal the wounds.
