I wish the bands that have had Rick Rubin production since the mid-90s could file a class-action lawsuit against him for industrial sabotage. Afterwards, they'd use the proceeds to remix their affected catalog. Then, I can finally enjoy every System Of A Down album without blowing out speakers, eardrums and colon.

Yeah, that first one being a joke because the standard version ^^ is ALREADY brickwalled to distortion, but the cool thing was how guys took all the tracks from Guitar Hero & put it out with a more of a decent mastering..

Saw a vid of Rick Rubin sitting with Johnny Cash, making Cash's last album. Rick Rubin made me want to puke.

Yeah, I never really thought about him, besides that he did a nice job with The Cult Electric. I know he did Beastie boys Ill & some other stuff like that. I know that stark production works fine for some bands (didnt like what he did for Johnny Cash), but Im afraid brickwalling entire albums final levels to oblivion is pretty fucking dumb.

He was part of Def Jam, recorded License to Ill, and Slayer at the same time in different studios. Kerry king did the guitars on Fight for Your Right, and No Sleep Till Brooklyn.

He also produced Trouble's self titled and Manic Frustration and owns the rights to the albums so Trouble can't re-release them unless they pay him off.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess they signed whatever was put in front of them. They were an underground/Metal Blade band whose last album had tanked and they needed serious help with songs/arrangements/production if they were going to take it to the next level IMO.

It's not like re-releasing those albums is going to make a lot of money anyway. They just want to make the albums available to the diehards because they are long out of print.

Rubin completely fucked up The Cult Electric album. The original pre-Rubin version is the proper follow up to Love. Rather than his dime store Zep wannabe mix.

So yeah, no surprise he fuxored a Metallica album.

A historical footnote.....

The Beastie Boys shit-canned Rubin the very moment he suggested to MCA and King Ad Rock that they let go of Mike D..

I remember reading a story somewhere about Bob Rock being so disappointed in a recording project he told them to list Rick Rubin as the producer. Or was it the other way around? Funny, regardless.

I DIG Electric as it is. What I heard of the previous version sounded closer to LOVE, but felt lost to me. Very undefined & swimmy.
The Cult themselves were dissatisfied with "Electric Peace" & went to Rubin, who had them record it down to the basics. IMO that album rocked! & Love was great too
After Love & Electric came Bob Rock with intent to combine the best of both worlds on Sonic Temple, which he did. I just didnt like the material after their first 2.

I'm aware of all of that. I still think thay fucked it up. As for Sonic Temple, to me it's a whole lot of meh. Was never a big fan of that album.
