Don't take ease for granted. I lost 118 lbs when I was your age through exercise (bowflex to start, mostly cycling after getting some of the weight of) and a pretty strict diet. 2 kids slowed my motivation, And I was doomed to put all the weight back on, with interest. The biggest problem for me was not developing any good eating habits - it went right from "off" to "on", and that was it.

It took a lot for me to start down the path of getting a grip on things so I could I start losing weight. It really didn't help being 50 - it truly is harder to do it at this age.

Sorry if I'm coming of like a downer / preacher. I think it's great that you're accomplishing your goals, and wish you luck in getting where you want to be. Just make sure you're doing it at a pace that you can live with for the long haul. Especially where the eating is concerned :thu:

All of this.

I had lost 70lbs when i was 39. It was fairly easy. Then two years ago divorce and depression packed on 90lbs.

Now that I'm 44, it's harder. Only a couple years difference, doing the same things... The weight is not coming off like last time. I'm ok with this. I've accepted the fact that this will be a long haul and it probably should be. I let my self have the very very occasional treat, which actually helps your body from going into starvation mode and had the added benefit of you not going crazy and falling off the wagon. I'm aiming for 3lbs a week. If it doesn't happen, then i go by how my clothes are fitting and how i feel. Too many factors to only focus on the scale. If i feel good, then i remember i didn't feel good 5 weeks ago. That's enough motivation.

You guys can go back to page one and read my post. I've done a compete 180 from that Atrox. After losing just 10 pounds, i was feeling so much better physically and mentally. From there, it's just a matter of goals and sticking to them.

Glad to see you've got yourself back on the right path! Keep it up.

I still preach the cutting out sugar and processed foods from your diet. Easiest way to lose weight quickly.

Thank you and i have definitely been doing that for diet and gym 4 days a week.

My so called "treats" are things like Pho and Mei Fun (Chinese rice noodles). The latter, i make from home in a nice healthy way.

That looks real good, atrox  Can you spare some details on how it's made?

Pho has become one of my "foods of the gods" that I can't get enough of.

I've been scared to know the calorie / fat / unhealthiness of it though...

I know the sodium has got to be off the charts (especially the way I eat it)

But gaddam, the heat is soooooo good (especially the way I eat it)

Pho is a tad oily and salty and the rice noodles have very low carbs, but it's basically a rich, spicy soup. Keep it as a once or twice a week treat and all is well. I'd be willing to bet it's better for you than not. The Thai place i get it from here is incredible. They are straight from Laos and the spice level is off the charts, but they use minimal oil. They basically make it the way they made in Laos. It's not nearly as oily as many of the other places to get good Pho around here. Same goes for all their meals. I'll usually add an order of spicy squid to the mix and that is bad, but it's soooooooooo good.

The Mei Fun is in the same realm, only there are a lot more rice noodles. I start with cooking up some onion, red pepper and carrot in a wok in sesame oil. I use two tablespoons of the oil and that is for the entire dish, so it very low fat per serving. One package of rice noodles will make about 8 servings. Once the carrots have softened a bit, i add the chicken in the wok. Get that mostly cooked and add a shit ton of asian shredded cabbage. Often i just use the prepackaged coleslaw shredded cabbage and that is just fine too. Mix all that up and scoop as much as you can to the side of the wok. Add 4 eggs and scramble them all nice. Mix it all back up and I add a spoonful of Sriracha Chili Garlic sauce. When the chicken is cooked, add a 1/4 cup of water and 2 tablespoons of low sodium soy sauce. Stir in the cooked rice noodle (it's aggravating as hell) until it's all mixed and coated with yummy.

That sounds delicious! My wife and I eat a lot of rice noodles, instead of pasta. We also have a lot of great pho around here as well.

Look for coconut aminos to replace the soy sauce. It is pricey, but it barely has any sodium compared to soy sauce, and no sugar. Soy sauce is loaded with sugar.

Honestly, most of the flavor comes from the sesame oil. I often don't even do the soy, unless others will be partaking in this dish as well (and will bitch about it not having any salt whatsoever). Many times i make it for myself with no soy and eat it for lunch a couple times in a week.

That said, i'll check out the coconut aminos

I am 174lbs my friends. My wife didn't lose shit doing what I did so she went apeshit and decided to go full on Vegan. I told her I would support her in whatever. We have been doing this for 3-4 weeks no and she has come up with some really good recipes. She has always been a great cook. She is losing weight. So happy wife/happy life. :D

I am going to try and have a beach body by June. Going on family vacation with all of my immediate family. Something we have never done since adulthood. I'm really not far off of that BB and am not embarrassed to remove my shirt at this point. :rawk:

Fucking going for it.

 :hi5: good job mang.
you're gonna have ups and downs. don't fret it. and also be careful of losing too much weight too fast.
NOT healthy. it can actually trigger liver/kidney issues, heart arrhythmias and other things that are dangerous.

Make it a life style. steady. smooth. you want to land and stay in a zone of healthy.

Well done! Keep up the good work! :hi5:

Man. i have no idea how it came off that fast. I've been eating very healthy and very often. No processed sugars and carbs. Gym 4-5 days a week... mostly cardio. I have been doing everything, i think, to keep it healthy.

I think my body is just like "Get this shit off me". I know i'm gonna slow down for a bit no matter what i do, so i'll keep on keeping on and add more weights in my routine as well to break up the monotony.

I also eat one terrible for me thing once a week to keep my body from going "Fuck You". I don't care what anyone says about that... it works.

yes! :thu:

nothing wrong with putting in the effort and rewording yourself for doing so.
Sounds like you have a handle on it. I don't know if you have insurance. Ask if you can have a check up.

I know,,,,,i know. But this will give you detailed info on where you are at 'right now'. The pros do it. I actually love do it. lol

I love going info the docs office with results......and him/her showing me how those results affect my health. (i'm old....I need to be careful with extreme changes)

me and my doctor hug....cause he's ghey and i'm cute....but I've lost weight and the bennys are being checked.

I'm doing ok, my goal was to get below 200lbs by new years. I'm bouncing between 205-210lbs, and I might make it, but not stressed if I don't. That's still down 40-45lbs from 1/1/17, so I'm not beating myself up about it. Also, I am about to commit to a bike race in April, so my training program should have me below my goal weight before spring is here. Also, I am dealing with this little hip injury so I am trying not to push it.

Tons of success in this thread, maybe I can gain some mojo from you guys. 30, 40, 50, 70 losses are just colossal. Well done!

Ok so im 233lbs today, 5'9, 35 years old and decent health overall. My goal is 15% body fat by 2019. I havent calculated it but i must be around 25-30% at this point.

I am guessing that will put me around 190lbs range with a decent musculature.

So far I have been working out for about 1.5 month and have focused on proteins, while being more careful with my diet in general. If i am hungry i snack on veggies or meats.

I will follow what my body says, but i am guessing i will begin a steeper cutting phase in may-june. I dont plan on doing any extremes, but i will make much better choices.

Hopefully i dont injure something major by then lol.. Injuries suck real bad when im on a roll, this time im listenning to my body and not being stupid.

I still have lingering injuries from my stupid testosterone days, elbow and shoulder issues.. Also had to plug a large inguinal hernia a few years back. So yeah im not rushing anything. I think my workout routine will eventually repair most of my mechanical malaises.

Heres to giving it a real shot.

Towards the end of the year, I slacked off and put a few pounds back on. Got strict this year, and took them back off. I also cut out a lot of meat from my diet.

Big problem with this is my tolerance to alcohol has gone down a lot lol. I'm becoming a bit of a light weight.
