I think in all clips, I preferred the Heil stuff. I guess I am not a huge m57 guy. I bet blended the 57 & PR20 or 57 & PR30 would sound great though.

Hoping y offer on the PR30B gets accepted today. Sounds great in every clip I've heard. If not I'm grabbing the 20UT for sure.

Post to check out after work.

SM57s are OK, it's just that mic technology has improved by leaps and bounds since 1965.

I rarely get good results with mics right on the grill. I like a mic about a fist away and off center. Also each mic has its optimum pre/load setting so that could alter your opinion if you set them all the same in the shootout.

I've used the PR35 quite a bit. Totally killer mic. Much more detail and nuance. Great mics, also very feedback resistant.
I love Jeeps, Krav Maga, Thai Boxing and obviously Guitars.

Finally got to listen to the demos....

They all sounded decent including the Heils.
Except the MD441 can't believe how muddy they sounded especially, since I came close to getting one a few times. Ha! Glad I didn't! :thu:

The PR-30 sounded great on dirty and cleans. The 57 I liked more on the dirty than the cleans. The SM 7b had great cleans, but the dirty side not so much. The rest of the mics fell short of these 3. Hard to believe the 57 still hangs with mics costing a LOT more, and still an industry standard. I have 2, and hard to justify more for electric guitar. I am also a cheap bastard.

I liked the SM57 for that thing it does, but just in isolation the MD441 sounded the best imo - thicker without being dull.

I've tried the SM7b a few times on cabs and it never really does much to me - just sounds a bit like an SM57 except boring-er.

My PR30b will be here tomorrow. Going to try and record some this weekend and compare to my buddy's AT4040 he loaned me.

Listening at higher volume, the 441 sounds glorious in the first vid.
