Two Notes WOS III-REAMP PROBLEM FIXED, SEE LAST POST

Post by Steinmetzify »

Messing around with this tonight, with that reamp thing I've been playing with all weekend. Disabled cab sims in the Axe and used this instead.

It's a free plugin for 30 days, and then you have to buy one cab to keep using it. Not bad since you can use different settings, 10 cabs at once, presets, etc. You can also move mics after recording and link cabs or not. I dig it and will use on future stuff, and I like it better than using a dedicated IR loader like NadIR or LeCab.

It sounds good, but there's a hint of that upper mid/hi rasp that, while it isn't deal breaking, ends up grating if you listen to too much of it. I can't ever seem to rid myself of that rasp on recorded high gain direct tones. Some people have figured out how, but it appears to be beyond my grasp.

Mine too. I don't know enough about EQ to get rid of it. Gonna try it later on with some riffs and see if it's still there. Still dig the plugin though. Really intuitive and easy to use. Plus I'm kind of stuck with this sort of thing since I have no interface and no mics lol.

Thanks for the listen and critique, man. Appreciated.

Is that you playing? That is excellent.
Something in the mids- or maybe it's the phase?- is bothering me here

Fuck no, I wish I could play that. It's a reamp, just messing around to try and get some mixing skills going.

Something there is bugging me too, but I don't know what it is. It could be something in the Axe, I'd have to check. Thanks for the listen though!

Killer playing. Yeah I'm hearing that weird thing in the mids too. I think Markdude might have been in to something when he was asking about impedance problems you might be having or something.

Still better than Justin Bieber.

Ok so now this is bugging the fuck out of me and I can't not hear it.

I sent this to a buddy and asked him to reamp it using ReValver 4 and the shit sounds great. What could be causing this hollow mids crap? I don't know anything about impedance or what causes it. I disabled everything in the Axe patches I thought might be causing it, and used the WOS III again, and it still happened.

Would appreciate some knowledge on this, as like I said its irking me. There's no reason my buddy should get better results using a $99 program than I can using a $2k processor.

Any ideas?

Is the sound there when there is only 1 guitar? That would at least rule out some kind of weird phase from multiple guitar tracks

Also, are you using the Torpedo Blender? If so there could be a phase issue in there if you're molting multiple mics (I never used it so not sure how to trouble shoot that one)

Not using the blender Ray, and that's a good idea on the single track. I'll try that in the morning and see if it's still doing it. If it's not then it's something in the Axe that's doing it when I double up on these tracks. Thanks man.

So this is basic stuff....free amp sims and a couple different free OD pedals, using the WOSIII as cabs. I barely even dialed this stuff in. I don't get this...this sounds way better to me than the first clip in this thread.

It does, way better. Way more usable and good sounding.

So the first clip was the Axe and this one is Amp sim from WOS III ? If that's the case there's something going on that you need to figure out in your Axe. Or was it 11R... I can't remember. Anyway, this second clip is better by a mile.

2nd clip sounds great

There's some setting in that fractal 1st clip that is not right; have you tried the fractal forum? They've been super helpful to me with my FX8 and may help you find an easy solution.

Right? Dude, I didn't even dial anything, just threw some amp sims on there and recorded it. Fuck.

Give it a shot later on Ray.....yeah, they're pretty helpful over there for sure.

Thanks guys....just wanted to make sure my ears weren't playing tricks on me.

What amp sims, IRs and overdrive pedals did you use? I think you may be onto something here. How about recording an original clip with this setup?

Baron 1000 L and a Mark III sim R, one of the TSE Tubescreamers L and another free Tubescreamer R. Same exact IRs in the WOSIII plugin. Everything is exactly the same, except for the first clip I used the Axe sims. Don't get it.

See if I can get time to record a clip using this stuff later on.

EDIT: disabled everything in the Axe chain and just ran direct into those sims. Pardon the playing.

Do you have a regular interface you can plug into and take the axe out of the signal chain entirely?

Nope. Never needed one before.

I threw it up on the FAS forum, and Cliff told me the reason it sounds like that is because I'm getting the direct track as well, and told me the solution was to mute the direct track. Tried it, and there's no way to record without monitoring the direct track. Derp. :idk:

So.....operator error. Good Axe guru and bro from SSO told me what I was doing wrong. Had to solo the track when reamping, otherwise it would run both the reamp and the direct track. Shit was irksome, but glad to know that the really expensive processor can hang with free amp sims.
