What's your max distance for dating?

Post by RSBro »

So, I've finally sorted through the hellacious fem-nazi's I'd been dealing with the last few years (actually it was in late 2011) but I wanted to give myself some time and start dating again. I live what's considered the "greater" Houston area, but it's not Houston, and in a different city and actually county altogether. It's much more suburban and I chose it bc I have fam close and I know my house won't devalue to shit like so many Houston-area outskirts have over the years.

However, that makes it tough to find single folks around here since it's mostly families or divorced folks. I meet people in Houston often but they just live so fkn far away... This one chick I've been talking to lives like almost 60 miles from my house and that is just too got damm far I think. You can't see each other when you want, it's always gotta be scheduled and whatnot and if something comes up, well that's almost 2 weeks you can't see each other which is lame. On the flip side, I do have exams and shit to do a lot of the evenings but I dunno. I've done the LD thing before and not really keen on re-upping that, even if it's for someone pretty cool since you don't get that real day-to-day interaction and always wonder what they're like IF you saw them er'ry day.

Sorry for the ghey/omoh rant but I'm at work on a Sunday so trying to be least productive as possible lol and wanted some thoughts for some folks who may be in a similar situation.

I'd say for me - it would be more of a minimum distance.

At least 10 miles from my wife..............

Jenny was about 30 mins before she moved in and that's about the max. Did the long distance thing once when a girl I was seeing moved, that was a terrible idea.

Did what I'd consider long distance once.
Never, ever again.

I live in Chicago and up until recently had pretty much been only willing to date girls in my neighborhood or an easy train or bus ride away.
However at this very moment I'm cleaning up my place because a girl who lives almost an hour away is coming and we're going out tonight.
I wouldn't normally go for something like this however this chick on paper is pretty much exactly the type of female I'm looking for so I'm considering making an exception.
That and she supposedly moving somewhere down here once she finishes her nursing certifications in May.

For you my advice is don't even get into if the girl doesn't seem worth the hassle.
If she's wife material then I say fuck it, whats some distance early on compared to a happy lifetime together?

My ex girlfriend was from Cambridge (well a town next to it). London to Cambridge was a bitch on the funds and heart strings. Now I always make sure it isn't MILES away, unless you are considering moving.

70+ miles. I use to drive from San Antonio to Austin twice a week to see her. Quality :shake: aside, it was too much of a pain. Gas, time, etc. Finally got tired of driving so much and began to stay home and :fap: instead.

40-ish miles/1 hour (Barring traffic) was the most I've done.

I can speak to this directly, since I spent the years 2005-2009 single in Houston. :)

I lived near the 610 loop, first near I-10 and Bingle, then in the Heights, and my limit was "greater Houston area." I went on a few dates down near NASA, but not as far as Galveston. I went on a few in Katy and Sugarland, but no farther west than that. When I met my now-wife, she lived in the Woodlands, and I wouldn't have gone much farther than that. Conroe - no way.

It depends. :idk: It depends on you, her, and both your lifestyles.

I started dating a girl in my last year at school. We vaguely new each other through mutual friends and a few group chats on the legendary Yahoo Messenger. :D When we met at a new year's eve party we got on really well, and afterwards we spoke a lot more on the phone and internet. Despite living a good 50 miles apart, we liked each other enough that we started going out - we'd take the train or get lifts from parents.

Then I went to uni and it became a four hour train journey that a lot of the time I couldn't afford. But we still saw each other plenty. I won't deny there weren't times when I questioned whether it'd be easier to have someone closer, but she was worth it and it made our long weekends together every month or so all the better. If you know what I mean.    :lash:   :x

After I finished uni (6 years ago, gulp!) I moved into a house with friends and she moved in with me. We've been living together since, and last Feb we bought a house. Last week was our 10 year anniversary.

Would it have worked for everybody? Obviously not. If you need lots of regular easily accessible sexytime, not a chance. If you fall out of love with someone you haven't seen for a month, not a chance. If you're the jealous/ insecure type and you couldn't cope with not knowing where your girlfriend was on a random Wednesday evening when you've not heard from her since the weekend, no way.

Tried long distance, girlfriend lived 8 hours away. I turned down a lot of girls over 2 years, then she went off to school, found a guy who paid attention to her for more than 20 seconds and broke up with me.

Although the actual long distance part never bothered me. I like A LOT of space so never having to deal with her was nice..

Yeah see, the Heights isn't that bad at all- door to door if I take the Hardy and haul ass I can be there in about 35 mins. Richmond and going further out West towards Katy n shiz is just too far for me I think.
Like I said, I spent the last 4 years being about 4 hours away from my then-gf and I made it work bc I was in the mindset of going out all the time and doing band shiz 24/7 so her NOT hassling me was cool.
However, now I have a jerb I like close to home, own my house, and want to definitely see someone more often than not, maybe 3-4x a week. This "I see you on Saturday evenings every 1-2 weeks for a date" just gets lame and quick, even if the girl is nice.

Anyway, thx for the input dudes and Imma just start looking for people closer. I'm comfortable with about 30-40 mins max I think, as further than that isn't somewhere you can just do stuff "spur of the moment", IMO.

Normally, no more than 45 min.

But, my wife was living 7.5 hrs away at one time before we were married. That's a whole different story in itself though.

haha i'm talking about "actual" dating, that will hopefully lead to something solid in the future.
that other part, distance is irrelevant (depending on level of :fap: -worthiness!!)

I sorta tried the long distance thing once, but the chick had a lot of free time and money, so she'd always drive to meet me. I think it was about a 2 hour drive. I'd just sit around and drink while I was waiting for the handshakes to arrive. It still didn't last long though. My eyes started to wonder, so I just broke it off before anything happened.

unfortunately that probably happens sorta often on the "free" sites, anyway where there's no $$ involved and you can upload any pic you want, etc.
