Looking to try an alternate wah. Thining the Tremonti is a bit trebly in the toe down position. i love the switchless feature thou. So Tones of say the Teece, Fulltone Clyde , RMC CAE Cantrell Crybaby etc, which one of these has the warmer smoother tone?

Well, I have a Bad Horsie and a Crybaby that I modded to JC specs, and I can say that I greatly prefer the Crybaby. With the knob you can adjust the toe down position exactly how you like it, and in general the sweep is just about perfect. For distorted tones I like a less trebly peak, and for clean tones you can make use of the full range. You can really dial in a smooth tone with just that one knob.

You want a warmer, smoother wah? You have a few options from Dunlop.
1) CAE wah on the red fasel 2) Joe Bonamassa sig wah (super vocal and smooth) 3) Jerry Cantrell wah with the adjustment knob set to taste can be pretty smooth and vocal 4) Jimi Hendrix sig wah
Out of all the above, I'm using the CAE wah and I have tested the J.B wah pretty extensively. I love the CAE cos' you get a choice of 2 fasel's. Red for more lows and vocal-like quality and the yellow for a more quacky wah.
The J.B wah is super vocal and warm. Too warm for me in fact. It won't cut through well if you're a high gain guy but get a medium drive or a fuzz tone going and the wah shines.

Yes, the Jerry Cantrell wah is the standard crybaby gcb-95 with a different sweep cap and the additional pot. Very easy and worthwile mod if you don't want to pay the full price for the cantrell version!
I've seen Kotzen live four times over the last years, easily one of my favorite guitar players. Great that you get to see him live, he always puts on a great show!
This thread reminded me that I have a shell for a Crybaby wah stashed away somewhere...got it and a homemade compressor pedal at a flea market as a throw-in with some video games I bought.
I still use an ancient dunlop 535Q though and it's served me well. It's the 18v version and it's easily 15 or so years old but it sounds good and has worked flawlessly from day 1 so I've hung onto it.
I think the only reason I got that particular one was becuase it was the wah of choice for adam jones from tool and I loved the Q adjustment control that the other wah's didn't have. the boost on it I never use. It gives you a bit extra headroom (mainly when going 18v) but the wah effect is less pronounced.

Not really a high gain player, more bluesy rock. Though there is a RMC 5 wizard on OZ ebay i'm watching. Bit pricey thou. Think i might try the JC wah, then decide if i'll keep the Tremonti .

the one thing I realy like about the morleys is their auto-on thing. clicking down can be hit or miss if you're in a hurry or not paying attention but then again, you can leave the wah cocked in any position with the dunlop style ones.

I had a Tremonti wah, but decided to try the Ibanez Weeping Demon Jr. which has the switchless system similar to Morley. I am a lot happier because you can adjust the volume and how fast the delay turns off after you quit depressing it; plus it is a bit darker sounding, works better with cleans, and .
I haven't tried the Real McCoy wahs, but have heard great things about them!
I currently have a fulltone jimi wah, but my favorite as far as tone was the Dunlop wah with fassel inductor . Also , the old vox v847 with the chrome metal base sounded great. The fulltone is the best built and also has some cool options but expensive.
I'm really happy with my CAE/Dunlop wah... IMO having the two inductors basically gives you two wahs in one and they BOTH sound great.. the added clean boost is a great extra especially if your planning on doing the warmer tones since those tend to get lost in the mix easier so it's nice to have a built in boost that kicks in once the wah is on..

The Bad Horsie's have an adjustable pot that sets the "turn off" time. I figured the Tremonti would have that as well.
I have a 535Q. I recently tried out a Keeley Modded Vox 847 and didn't think all that much of it. Did it sound good? Yes, it was a good wah. In the end I took it back and kept my 535Q in the lineup.
I like a pinch of top end bite. The Keeley Vox was just too smooth. Great sweep though....
I am a big fan of the Bad Horsie, I bought it 16 years ago when it was released and never looked back. I went through many rigs since them and the BH is the ONLY piece that remained constant through all my rigs.
If i recall, i had a Crybaby GCB95, stock standard. It sucked the life out of my tone so i pissed it off real quick. Several years later i bought the Tremonti which has been on my board for about 7 years . Will probably keep it and just get another with a warmer smoother flavour, possibly the Cantrell crybaby at this stage.
