volume pedal vs. volume pot

Post by Ostinato Rubato »

I traded recently and got Yarb's volume Ernie Ball volume pedal. Why do I prefer the rolled back tone of the pedal more than the guitar's pot? It sounds "better" to me :idk: fuller... even though quieter...

is this in my head?

Unless you're hearing the voices again. :cop:

I seriously want to understand this. It would be cool if I could make the electronics of the guitar's volume more like the pedal... if it's even possible, even if it is all in my head.

I wants teh knowledge! :nerd:

My first thought would be that the Volume pedal might have a treble bleed in it?

And I'm assuming your guitar does not? :idk:

I prefer volume/expression pedal more than volume control on guitar too. In recent years, having both options helped with tonal variety.

Resistor value, I think. Your guitar probably has 250k pots, which can cut some treble as they're turned down. 500k pots should do the trick.

I use the pedal more, but I use both. Mainly I just find it easier to use my foot while playing than fiddling around with a knob.

So like, this is why I traded for it. You can do manual volume swells without having to coordinate rolling the knob, and whatever other applications you might find for it, but in the process of all that I learned that I prefer the tone. It's fuller and as a result sounds more clean to me as a rolling back sound.
