Cool ~ so, what exactly does the mod change from stock, soundwise? Also, what speakers are you running your DSL with?
Thanks, mang!
The C12 is a bright cap, but it's on the gain control, not the volume. So it basically makes it very ice picky at lower gain settings. Clipping it keeps it fuller sounding and usable at low volumes. It also makes the red channel more compatible with the green channel, so the shared EQ is not an issue.
I use Marshall cabs with a 75/65 X pattern.
Dig! Sounds rather like the bright cap that Dave clipped on the high treble volume on the Plexi, before he sold it to me. I imagine this C12 mod doesn't take anything away from the DSL when it's cranked, either, right? Cool!
<feels DSL gas beginning to grow>

it actually makes it a bit more like a cranked amp, even though it's on the gain control and not the volume. The DSL's Red channel is notorious for sounding awful at low volumes, unless you really crank the gain. At high volumes, the power section is cranked enough to make it sound better, but at low volumes, it's terrible. The mod just really evens things out and makes the red channel sound tits at any volume. It's easily reversible too. Just clip one leg and solder it back if you want it back.

I did the C12 mod and ended up reversing it to stock, I like it that way, I just roll back the treble knob when I am playing at low volumes and it's fine.
But I like the extra "edge" you get at high volumes with the stock config.
I could use the amp either way, but I ended up preferring it stock.
I use mine with V30s. DSLs will work with just about any speakers though, it's not picky at all.
Guitars: '78 Les Paul Pro / '89 SG Special/ '04 Gibson Les Paul Classic 3 pickup / Jackson Star/ Endres Tele / Fernandes Rhoads/ ''74 Hohner MIJ strat/ 2 Partscasters
Amps: Depends on when you ask. I got tired of constantly updating this section lol
Cabs Marshall 1960A w V30s/ Seismic 2x12 w Redback and V30.

Drae- I've already mentioned how much I love my DSL40C. Switchable to half power, it's plenty loud either way. Stick it on a cabinet to spread it out. Or take it as a 1/12. It's very versatile.
Most importantly, it rocks like only a Marshall can.
Everyone else is just tooling for anus.
I just got back from the gym. Coherence is not my specialty right now.
Keep exactly what you have. Play it. Learn to use it all. Get accustomed to it all. Most importantly quit over thinking this stuff!! If ya like the plexi after 3 months then keep it. If not, sell it. There will always be another plexi.
Except sell those prissy Hamers and get ya a Gibson.

Hey, Billy ~ glad you chimed in on this one! Interestingly enough, it's a V30 in the Bonneville combo, so I know I can get along with that speaker. I'd be interested to hear a DSL through my Greenie cab, though ~ would make sense, given how conflicted I am between vintage & more modern tones.
nb4 somebody says VINTAGE MODERN!

Dave, this is a wise, considered, and insightful suggestion ... and I want no part of it. You know that ain't how I roll, brah!

maybe it's time for you to find a forum more your speed. You know, where all the pros hang out and make fun of us lowly weekend warriors that overcompensate with oversized gear.

I figured it wouldn't take long for it to degrade to this.
I'm a weekend warrior too, and I play a JTM into a 2x12. It's called class. try it sometime.

I gigged this setup quite a bit:
now, shuffle on down to wherever you superior badasses hang out and leave us overcompensaters alone. I dunno how people using 4x12's offends you so much, but we're trying to laugh and joke around in here. You're here to shit on people. Fuck off.
