TGP buyers refuse to use Paypal Gift?

Post by opether »

I've sold lots of stuff over there, and the last 3 or 4 sales, the buyers have ignored my Paypal gift requirement. We're talking pedals lately. Listed an OCD for $100 shipped PP Gift, and after the buyer tried to beat me down to $90, and I refused, he said I'll take it, and I ate $4 in fees, and now have to eat shipping from Florida to California. I've always just let it go, but I'm tempted to say something?

That's not what PP Gift is for.
You're trying to scam the system, then getting pissed off at people who won't play ball.

Get over it.

They lose their protection if it's gift.
Not that odd for them not to.

I understand why some people don't like to use PP gift for purchases. I won't do it either unless is someone I know well.

Now it's up to you whether it's worth to say something or not. I mean, it's 4 bucks. :idk:

sellers who require pp gift get ignored by me. waaaaaay to many good deals and other legitimate sellers out there right now to waste time on someone who off the bat looks to be shady.

just increase your price by the amount of the pp fee to attract buyers who will feel comfortable sending money to someone they have never met.

Exactly. You should have advertised it for $105 shipped/pp'd.

No way I'll buy if the seller requires the use of PP gift. Don't think it's possible with an international PP payment anyway.

I would factor the paypal fee's into the price right from the start then you don't have to worry about it. If the buyer wants to pay another way that avoids the fee's, if you accept you can discount the price by the paypal percentage.

True. I don't mind eating it, I just wish it would be addressed instead of just ignored. I've had many add the fees on top of the asking price.

And to those above, nobody's pissed, and nobody's scamming anyone. I've sold hundreds of items between ebay, HC, RT and especially TGP.

We're talking a $100 pedal here. Buyers can get all the references they want, should they ask. It's not like it was my first post, selling a pedal.

Since when is asking for Paypal Gift shady? Sellers ask for it on all major forums.

Again, my only gripe is that they ignore it. $4 isn't the end of the world. If a buyer doesnt WANT to use gift, I fully understand, and easily work with them. Don't just blatantly ignore it, address it with me.

Dude were just telling you what it looks like from an outside opinion

You can continue to fight it and really prove us all wrong or hammer your buyers for that extra five bucks.

Makes no difference to me, just telling you why I refuse to work with people who do that..

This.

No protection for buyer if they do this. I wouldn't buy from you either with that policy, just saying.

Yep, I've had people ignore PP gift.

They ask me to move on price, and I say "yes, if you use the paypal GIFT option"

they send me payment via standard paypal.

I message them back asking why they didn't use paypal gift.

"What's paypal gift?"

I fully understand, and, I myself won't buy larger items paypal gift either. When I sell an amp, or guitar, I ask a price that covers it. I won't ask gift on higher end stuff. It amazes me that someone asks Paypal Gift on a $1600 guitar? No way I'd do it.

If the buyer doesn't want to use it, fine.

If the buyer agrees to use it, and then doesn't.......that sucks.

I would prefer to send someone a PayPal invoice that clearly defines what they're buying from me. It gives us both a more accurate record of the transaction. Why would anyone not want to do that?

I wouldn't buy something via PayPal gift unless it was from someone who I know is very reputable and who I have done business with before. Even then, the additional 3% would be worth paying for coverage. I won't be buying a Dumble soon, so I don't worry about the nominal additional fee.

When I sell I always just add in the PayPal fee and round to a nice even number. (Required item price + estimated shipping cost) * 1.03 = What I'm asking
