Thinking of buying a JC-90 vs a JC-120

I decided it would be more convenient to have a JC-90. I live an apartment with stairs and would hate to lug a 60 lbs amp around. I want to use one of those old rockman Distortion Generators in the JC-90's effects loop and have a simple lightweight rig for gigs. The only thing I am worried about are the 2X10 vs 2X12 speakers and the lack of bass with smaller speakers. JC-90s are hard to find so I cant test it out in person. Anybody have any experience with a JC-90 or JC-77 (very similar to JC-90 except no effects loop and no silver cone speakers)?

Nope, no experience with a JC-90. And really I'm just familiar with the JC-120 from listening, never playing.

Anyway...does your music need huge low end? You didn't mention your style. I always liked the Fender Vibrolux Reverb or whatever that 2x10 amp that is similar to the Deluxe Reverb is called. But I don't really need a lot of low end out of my guitar.

10" speakers can have plenty of punchy low-end, it's usually midrange they lack.

If you want the best chorus, it's soticebaly better and more spacial out of the stereo JC-120. The dry signal goes to one speaker and the delayed signal goes to the other, it's when the soundwaves mix in the air that the chorus effect is created. With the 77 and 90, the signals are mixed internally as part of the preamp.

You may find the Distorion Generator a bit processed sounding into the rather "flat" voice JC.

Thanks guys. My music is kind of like 80's new wave meets 80's hard rock. It goes from Cure like clean to thats 80s Def Leppard rock sound. I had a Rockman Sustainor into a JC-120, but the Sustainor was old and hissy. It needed a refurb, if it was newer it would have been perfect

Jc120s are awesome fucking amps. I would love to have one and use pedals. The chorus has to be heard in person to appreciate it; it is incredible!!! Never played a 90.

Same here. Not that I have ever played through the JC-120, but at least I know about them (and they do sound great). Wyatt's informative post on the differences makes me wonder if the JC-120 can be a pain to mic. I hate messing around with two mics on the same amp. I really didn't know how the chorus effect was produced.

This. Consider that 10" speakers are the most popular size for...bass cabs.
