True bypass loopers
Can you use just one true bypass looper if you have pedals that are both in front of the amp and in the fx loop?
Or do you need 2? One for the pedals in front and one for the pedals in the loop?

We need a true effects forum for a proper answer. I have two loopers(m13 and jam man stereo) but I dont use either.

Re: True bypass loopers
I think you would need to get two of those particular units... I have a Carl Martin Octa-Switch that allows you to use one unit both for pedals up front and in the loop... It is a matter of using one of the loop in/outs to send to the effects loop/amp input... everything before it goes in the front and everything after goes in the loop. I have it setup so there are 3 loops that go into the front and 4 that go into the loop. I have set it up so that each loop contains one pedal. Since the Octa-Switch allows you to choose which loops to be on at the same time, I can get 8 different presets to work with...
This image might make more sense that me typing it out...

If you have a single channel amp this unit is amazing! If you have a channel switcher the latest version would work best [as long as you can change channels via 1/4" mono plug], that is the MkII. The one in the picture is the MkI unit, which is what I have.

Re: True bypass loopers
Yeah I sorta guessed that I would need 2 of 'em.
The Octa Switch takes up a whole lotta space.

As far as I know you can do it with the Voodoolab, RJM, Musicom Lab and maybe there are more, check out this:

Re: True bypass loopers
I just want a simple, non-programmable, TBL.
I don't want to get into the RJM stuff.

Re: True bypass loopers
I was thinking that it would be easier if I could get away with using just one, 8-loop, switcher but I don't know if I'll run into any ground loop issues.

They are REALLY simple to build. All you need is an enclosure, 1/4" jacks, and DPDT switch.
Re: True bypass loopers
You could use one just fine, but if its only send /return on each loop as most are you basically put your amp's preamp in one of the bypass loops and leave it always on, then plug the end of the looper into the fx return of your amp.

Re: True bypass loopers
And with a standard loopmaster style you only have one input and one output. So you technically could split it in two by using the send jack of one loop to go to the front of the amp and bring in your effects loop to the return.
Hitting that loop would mute your whole rig too.
Edit - too slow
