Yeah. I think that kinda stuff. I'm. Only 36, and the age , mortality thing has been eating alot at me as of late. Where in blue fuck did the last 20 years go?. These are some really strange times lol.

Re: I dont have a will, but
Having seen what clusterfuck happens in the court system when you don't have a will I recommend everyone have a will
I can draft them up if you want, of course I get first dibs, LOL.
Edit: I was totally kidding about that last part, I just want all your gear.

I would recommend a living trust, not just a will.

Re: I dont have a will, but
It's funny how many people don't have formal wills. A guy at work was telling me about his grandparents and how they don't have anything except a notebook with names of who gets what... It sounds like they have a pretty good sized estate too. I can just imagine the family debacle after they die.

BINGO!
Just because you scribbled something on a paper doesn't mean that's what will happen. Without a trust, the courts will take control of everything.
There was a story when a court took over some dead dude's assets and property, and the guy who worked for the court and was in charge of this case blew out all the property at insane bargain prices to his friends.
With a trust, there are specific instructions left behind, not only in the event when you die, but in the event that you're incapacitated to the point where you can't communicate.
Do you want the courts deciding on when to pull the plug, or do you want someone close that you love and trust?
Do you want the courts to pass all your gear to your father that's been out of the picture since you were nine years old, or to your drug addicted brother who's only going to dump it for a quick hit?
A trust puts people you want to make the tough decisions, not the courts: not just decisions about your property, but any money you leave behind, medical decisions, who'll take care of your kids (if you have any), legal decisions, etc.
In my parts, it costs about $200 - $1000 to set one up. I think you can do one yourself online for about $50. You can go in and edit it whenever you want too.

Dude, wtf are you talking about? A living trust can complicate things even more than dying without a will, and most people don't need a living trust. Don't go recommending a living trust to people simply because you "heard a story" or because "ZOMG the gubbmint gunna take mah money!" A living trust may work for some people, but chances are you a still going to need to file for probate, have an administrator appointed (which is never a "a guy who worked for the court"), and get letters testamentary that allow the administrator to close accounts, open lock boxes, collect debts, etc. A living trust may facilitate the transfer of untitled property, but it is going to be utterly useless in accessing accounts held in the name of the decedent only. And if you think that a home is "owned by the trust" simply because you have a stack of papers saying that a trust exists, think again. You will probably need to convey the house to the trust by deed, and then register that deed with the county.
TL,DR: this guy has no idea what he is talking about. If he is an attorney, then he practices under the name Malpracto-bot. If you want to save money in the long run, go to a real attorney and get a proper estate plan.

Re: I dont have a will, but
Just turned 41. Oddly enough, I'm learning the solo to Time. Song speaks to me so much now. Where the fuck did the last 20 years go?

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way
Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death
Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say
