Seemed to have more of a mid range bark that than the 6L6. my preference only . The best thing for my tone was when i started using the G Flex cab with it . Great combo IMHO.
Well I have a ported cab, so I am hoping that it pairs nicely. I know the G-Flex is ported as well, but the speaker I am using is different than that of the G-Flex... I hope it pairs nicely...
Thanks for information on the power tubes, I will keep the JJs in mind if I feel the need to try EL34s in it!
Out of curiosity, what do you all use to boost your Laney amps? I have a modified SD-1 and a Pro Tone Thruster [clean boost] at my disposal... I was thinking that I should add a tube screamer of some sort to my board.
colejustesen wrote:Mike... Do you use the hi or low input? I read that when you go through the high input, it disengages the V1 gain stage, but in low it engages that tube...
I assume you use the low input, since you are using a lower gain tube in V1????
I was thinking of putting my JAN/Philips 5751 there or in V4 when the time comes... And can you guys remind which tubes are safe in a cathode follower position?
Cole
I did use the low input on the GH50L but I turn the gain up more than whenever I run it in Hi. If sometimes I ran it in the high input I turned the gain down a little, so it's all semantics really. I prefer the low input route typically. I've never heard that high input disengages V1... that's really interesting. I have to find out if that's how the VH100R is set up
I don't know which tubes are safe in a cathode follower position. I'm a little newb sometimes. This is one of those times, cause I don't really understand what a cathode follower position is I've only used 12AX7 in V4 which all I know is it's for the phase inverter. Other Laney guys have mentioned using 12AT7 in V4 in that amp, and I tried it recently in my VH100R (in V6) but didn't prefer the sound, but it might have been the tube itself. It was groove tubes.. which are sovteks i think???

So what do you guys use?

I think your boosts will work great with the Laney honestly. I had a Keeley SD-1 that was awesome, and a straight clean boost can never go wrong. If I didn't have the BB Pre-amp I would be using the Keeley SD-1 still.
I've used Keeley SD-1, BB Pre-amp, Dano CTO-1, OCDv4, Keeley DS-1, and Keeley TS-808 with the GH50L.
