Sound very good in some amps and shitty in others,(almost extremes) i like Greenbacks but V 30s do work well with some amp, push came to shove i would probably take the greenbacks

speaking of how are the newer greenbacks? - Are they good? close to the originals? anyone?

:idk:

Remember also, all V30s do NOT sound alike.

I have a "Mesa" V30 (T4335) in my Whitebox & can tell you firsthand it is warmer, fuller and a wee bit darker than a stock Marshall V30 and a Chinese V30. These, I believe, are what comes in a Recto cab.

I'm not saying one is better than another. Depends on what your tonal preference is.

Also, not sure which version would sound best with the Jet City. The "Mesa" version fits my 5153 great.

As someone who has 5 cabs with V30s, they don't all sound the same. But it's more the cabs they are in I think, I have 3 different mesa cabs and they all sound different.

Interesting & good to know. Are all of your cabs closed back?

I love V30s myself. I like greenbacks too but it really has a lot more to do with the rest of your signal chain. V30s work great with some amps, not with others, definitely try your head with a v30 cab first and see if you like it IMO.

Agreed...

I dont LOVE V30's by themselves with the 5150, but blended with a smoother, brighter speaker they work great. Been recording some nice ugly tones thru the v30's lately, that I cant get elsewhere..

In my 2x12 for small clubs I have v30s, In my 4x12 for bigger venues or outdoor gigs I have greenies. I use a Carvin VL-100 head. I do like the sound of the v30s, but I love the sound of the greenies in the 4x12 cab, maybe it's the cab, but it sounds very 3 dimensional sounding, even outdoors, if that makes any sense. It just projects really well outdoors and is very full sounding, and cuts through the mix really well. It depends on your personal preferences.

I was running two Eminence Legend GB1216s (since discontinued) in a 2X12 Avatar open back cab.

My main amp is an 18-watt TMB Marshall clone.

I decided I wanted to add a bit of sparkle so I ordered a WGS Veteran 30. I put it in a few days ago and it sounds fabulous, even without being broken in. Smooth sparkle -- not harsh at all.

I was so impressed by the sound, I've ordered their Invader (50 watt Greenback-type) to replace the other Legend.
Guitars: '16 Gibson Les Paul Classic • '16 Fender Deluxe Stratocaster HSS • Jackson Pro Soloist SL2Q
Amps: EVH 5150 iii 100 watt • Peavey 5150 • Fender Super-Sonic Twin • Mesa-Boogie Triple Rectifier
Effects: Line 6 Helix

G12H30s are better than V30s for Marshalls in my opinion. The mids can get really harsh when you combine a Marshall with V30s.

ET65's are the way to go. Also, Dave if/when you decide that Orange set up isn't for you, go ahead and throw the price at me.
