Anyone here like Fargen maps?

Post by Placemat Jackson »

I was pretty impressed with the tone of this thing. Kinda pricey, but it nails that classic Marshall tone in a lower wattage platform.

I'd really like to try one out sometime... the cleans sound awesome too.

I came incredibly close to buying a Fargen a few years ago. Really interesting amps and they definitely get you that Marshall vibe at tolerable volumes. Power scaling + ability to choose whatever octal power tubes you want =

they do have a great Marshall tone. But so does a Marshall and Marshalls usually cost less. I don't get it. :idk:

Never played one but I did see some local guy using one and his tone was fucking righteous. Dunno if it was an Olde 800 or a Miniplex, they look damn near the same

Sounded great, but why use a reverb to demo an amp? Maybe show that later, but mention it in the video at least.

I had a Miniplex Mark 1 years ago. It was a cool amp for sure. You could crank it in a band setting without incinerating your bandmates. At about half volume, I could pull Hendrix tones for days. The new ones are a bit spendy, though. But I'm a metal guy, so I traded it for a triple recto.
Shit that I own:
Amps: Mesa Mark III Red Stripe; Peavey 5150; Peavey VTM 60; Budda SD18; Dr. Z Carmen Ghia; Boss Katana; Mesa 400+; Darkglass Microtubes 900; Genx-Benz G-Flex; Marshall 4x12 w/Greenbacks; Peavey 4x12 w/G12K-85's
Guitars/Basses: Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro; Gibson Les Paul Studio; Ibanez Prestige RGA121; Balaguer Hyperion; Schecter Custom Shop Traditional; Schecter C-1 Platinum; Homebrew Tele; Composit Acoustics GXi; Warwick FNA; Peavey Cirrus 5; Rickenbacker 4003

That amp sounds killer in the demo. I know that he increased the level of gain on tap over the yrs as that was a complaint guys had originally. I like that even though its 25 watt it still comes with el34 instead of 6v6 although its an option.

My JCA surpressed a lot of my GAS, but if I ever had money to burn an olde 800 would be the FIRST amp I bought.

Sounds great but not for $2,250.

Can't you pick up an old JMP and send it to Friedman for about that price or less?

The benefit is in the power scaling available on some models. When I wanted Marshall tone, I bit the bullet and got a JMP, but had a Miniplex been available, that's what I'd have gone with.

I had a Mini Plexi for a few days. I thought it was a pretty good take on the Marshall thing but I wasn't floored by it.
