I can haz new clipz?

Post by The Anomaly »

I don't do this often, but I don't have much in the way of recording with my Peavey Rockmaster, so I decided to lay some stuff down to see what it sounds like, just listening to it and not playing it. Tell me what you think.

All tones are from my Carvin Contour 66, 4CM with my Digitech GSP1101, and using it's ALT412 cab sim, direct to soundcard, recorded with Reaper.

Clean tones. Back and forth between neck and middle positions, but coil split the whole time. I kick the chorus and delay in towards the end:

https://soundcloud.com/guitarbaba/rockm ... lean-tones

Crunch tone. This one is coil split the whole time. I think I may like this better than full bucker.

https://soundcloud.com/guitarbaba/rockm ... hum-crunch

Same Crunch tone, but with full bucker the whole time:

https://soundcloud.com/guitarbaba/rockm ... ker-crunch

This one is the Ultra Channel of the Rockmaster, or my heavy crunch tone. I add delay halfway through, for a bit, and then and coil split the neck pickup:

https://soundcloud.com/guitarbaba/rockm ... runch-tone

This last one is my solo tone. I experimented with two different dirt boxes in my GSP1101, hitting the front of the Rockmaster. The first half is the SD drive, the second half is the Sparkledrive. I think I like the Sparkledrive better. The SD gives better saturation, but it's cocked wah sounding.

This is not possible. The only peavey amps that sound good are the block letter 5150's.

Just kidding. Those clips sounded great! Your solo tone tickled my balls.

the clean i liked was super funky, the crunch was rock n roll to a T and the solo is really impressive.

all those clips sounded great - and I'm wondering why I can't get my rockmaster to sound like that. What tubes are you using?

Thanks all! And to think, I've been questioning my tones lately, haha!

That's actually why I recorded these clips, I seem to enjoy my tones more when I'm just listening to them, rather than when I'm playing. I'm not sure why that is.

You're going to hate this answer. I don't know. Haha.

A friend of mine gave me this preamp. He's a bass player and had it in his basement recording studio, but wasn't using it. I opened it up last year sometime to dust it out and all, but I forget what tubes are in there. They are nothing special, probably GT's or something.

Loved the lead tone clip. The tone and playing kind of gives me a Satriani vibe: Nice, "chewy" tone with a vocal quality and I love how it sounds like you kind of slide into notes.

Jelly of your chops, and lol'd when I saw the clip called fat chicks at the bottom of the page.

Tyrone, yeah, you can take the boy out of the 80's, but not the 80's out of the boy!

Devin, thank you!

Rampage, thank you! I also grew up on R & B, and some smooth jazz, and i've tried to emulate the different solo styles into my playing as well, especially saxophone. I think that's where that comes from.

More evidence that the Rockmaster preamp is still relevant after all these years. Damn things last forever.

Nice work, really dig the fluid lead playing. Reminded me of Vito Bratta at times.

The crunch tone rocks. A girl I worked with took me to see your band wicked cricket a few years ago at some dive bar on rt. 130, you had a cool Navarro PRS that sounded great. Keep rocking dude.

Is a small world, you were playing great man, PRS Navarro model sounded really good. I'd love to find a lefty one, but imagine super expensive new, and wouldn't find a used one in a million years.
