NGD - Charvel content

Post by '63-Strat »

Music Zoo Custom Shop natural mahogany and US Production model Style 2 Day...

Ok so the mahogany one actually arrived Tuesday but the style 2 arrived today and figured I'd wait. Both were setup in Eb, the mahogany with 9s the style 2 with 10s. I left 'em for now as I just wanted to check 'em out and have fun with them initially. And had a gig on Tuesday night so didn't really get a chance to mess with the mahagony one till tonight anyways. Really like them both but need to wait till I have them setup with my gauge and in standard to know for sure.

That said, it's clear the mahogany one is nicer. The style 2 is great too, as good as the san dimas production one I had before I think but that one had a brass sustain block too come to think of it. But the mahogany one just sounds and plays insane. Maybe I should leave the 9s on there I dunno lol. JB/59 in the style 2 and Custom/Jazz in the Mahogany.

Epic stuff. Remove the Floyd Rose and the locking nut and I'd snap them up.

Badace!

I keep 9's on my mahog Californian. 9-46 EVH strings, specifically

I usually play 10-52s so 9s in Eb feels like rubber bands to me lol. But... I'll be damned if it isn't effortless and sound badass on that mahog!

There are definitely pluses and minuses to floyds. But... one of my bands is a 3 piece that I play guitar and sing lead in and we play with some backing tracks etc. (have a full-length album coming out soon too). It'd be really nice to not have to tune and stop the momentum at all during a set. If I had a tech, sure I could get away with my other guitars but realistically my Gibsons are not making it through a whole set without tuning ;)

I keep that guitar in drop D 100% of the time. I used the 10-52 strings for YEARS on that axe.....then decided to try the 9-46 and I found it made it even more effortless to play and sounded practically the same to me. For some reason the Cali seemed to have generally higher string tension that my other axes, even with the same gauges and tuning. It's weird

If they had at least 1 more string on them, your place would be hit tonight and I'd leave no trace it was me but they'd be GONE!

Great axes!

Setup both Charvels in standard, the mahog with 9-46 and the style 2 in my regular 10-52. Already tried the style 2 at rehearsal and gonna take the mahog tomorrow, likely will end up putting 10-52 on the mahog too but damn if it doesn't play effortlessly with the lighter strings! But... I'm so used to 10-52 in standard that I think I'll probably end up with those but we'll see. Snapped a new group shot today... I have problems I know :D
