AX84 SEL (Single Ended Lead) Build

Post by jgreenwd »

So, I finally got around to finishing off my SEL build. Overall, I'm ok with it. I may sell it, though. I'm itching to get on to building something else. The tones are cool for the most part. I need to get a more representative recording uploaded.

Here are a few pictures:

I built one at the beginning of this year.

It can use any octal power tube - I added external bias adjust and test points on mine. Loud and proud with a KT88, much more manageable with an EL34 volume wise. Sounds good and I'm glad I did it, but not my favourite in the stable by far.

Hi, I also make this amp, and I'm also happy with it :) I try it on two cabinets, 2x12(vintage 30) and 1x12 (greenback). This amp sounds much better on 1x12 with Greenback. The only thing that bother me on this amp is, that for home is to laud and for band is a little to quiet.

I finally got around to making a matching speaker cab. I decided to go with a Thiele EVM-12L. I added 2 pieces of 1/2" ply on the sides to make it the same width as the head.

This is pretty cool - any chance you can fix the links on your first post, thought? All the pics are gone.
