I want to hear some new metal.

Post by Dave Lister »

Not nu-metal, mind you. :wank: I like most. Only bands that are only somehow related to metal that I can't really stand are screamo-English slang for cigarette bands, Five Finger Fist Fuck, Seether or any other bro rock that gets massive radio play. If I listened to that shit, I'll probably start sporting a faux hawk and wear affliction shirts.

I'm in a bit of a rut. I want to hear some br00tz that'll put more hair on me balls. :rawk:

Ninja edit'd. They were under 20 yrs old when they recorded that.

Too bad I missed them last summer on Tuska Open Air in Helsinki. Too hungover to get to the festival area at 3 pm. :crap:

I'm right there with you Blackwolf. I'm completely at odds with the newer generation of metal heads. I can't handle 90% of the modern "brootz" music guys post on the board here. Musically I like a plenty of it, but then these vocalists do their thing and that's it. I'm out. And for whatever reason all of the newer metal, grindcore, or whatever the fuck they are calling it these days, has to have atrocious vocals and also quite often... stupid ass morbid lyrics.

When you listen to a band like Pantera for example, you can still here straight forward rock riffs in the music despite it being brutally heavy. I feel like most modern metal has lost all of it's ties and connection to straight forward rock, and it's shameful. Utterly fucking shameful.

That Lost Society video is pretty dope though. I'm glad it's young kids too. There's hope.

Don't know if it's heavy/brootz enough for you guys (compared to some of the other stuff in this thread) but I've been enjoying these guys lately. Kind of sounds like if Mike Patton was fronting QOTSA to me.

Lets keep this thread alive. My internet habits haven't helped me find much. I mostly listen to pandora, and look at nekkid Asian chicks and Netflix.

Since you enjoyed Ulcerate I wonder if you're familiar with Deathspell Omega? Pretty similar but black metal instead of death.

Awesome! I can hear some Sabbath influences and the vocals are quite weird, but fits the band. Now that's some unique sounding band right there!

:hi5:

Nowadays it's all about insanely dropped tunings, screaming vocals and blastbeats..and the lyrics

I understand it's a matter of taste, but as far as i'm concerned, pointless morbidity/blasphemy is just pointless (IMO). Now, when you have lyrics like in "Welcome Home - Sanitarium", "Fade to black", "Holy wars", "Madhouse", "Return to serenity" and many, many more i could quote, with good sounding guitars and arrangement, with actual rythm and pacing, then i can listen to it.

Maybe these modern metalcore or whatevercore or metal whatever doom from hell bands can be compared to what punk rock and grunge did back in their times, kind like making a point by singing extra morbid lyrics, playing the drums just as fast as fuck and keeping the guitar with very little rythmic accents/changes (Aside from "djent", which is maynly rithmical/percussive guitar with very little tone change). :idk:
