Yeah, what you guys don't understand is that there is no heel. It does not need one. The neck continues through where the regular tele heel would be. There's neck all the way to the last fret, and beyond (as the pickups are mounted to the neck). If you look at the neck joints of all his other models, the body and the neck meet at the last fret.

He's not gonna change how he builds his necks just so this one off "looks" right. The customer wanted the EGC design on this guitar and that's how it worked out. Purely aesthetic.

Hey, I was standing beside the guy with the camera when that picture was taken. I played that guitar, it was nice...but very heavy. And cold.

They could of at least applied some finish and laquer to the piece of wood that they hacked out.
Would look more correct if had been done.

So does the neck extend down as far as the bridge and tailpiece?

Sorry, I like the idea, but I think it looks absolutely terrible. That neck pocket is...beyond atrocious.

But if you like it, that's all that matters.

Makes customer wait 13 months and returns a piece of shit with a terribly fitted neck. Interesting. Just more evidence that most luthiers and amp builders make terrible business people. That thing you got back is garbage. Return it and demand enough money to replace the ruined guitar.

EGC's build quality is a lot better than any guitars most of us have dude.

Say what you want, but the neck is a terrible fit on the guitar...there are gaps all around the neck...not to mention just hacking the body up to fit it without any kind of stain or anything in it's place. A neck should fit snug, that neck has what appears to be at LEAST an 1/8" gap on all sides.

Argue their build quality all you want...on their own guitars...but this one does not fit in that list. Sorry.

Brent Hinds has to have some of the coolest guitars ever. His goldtop florentine les paul is absolutely amazing. Bill, Mastodon's other guitarist isn't, far behind him though, and I think that Gibson might be coming out with a sig model for him that's going to be based on one of his explorers.

As far as OP, to me it sounds like OP got exactly what he wanted. If he's happy, then cool.

Lol at anyone who thinks there couldent be gaps. Kevin wa well aware of the fact that this guitar woul be a sketchy donor as was i when it was sent. He was up for the challange of making something great but also at ease by my instructions to not hide any battle scars or refinish. The body was sent with dings and a oorly cut neck pocket and too many holes as is. It started its life a a tele but by the time igot it it had two humbuckers, vol vol tone and an epiphone bolt on explorer neck; thing has been weird and messed up as long as i remember. The neck warped and i decided i wanted to breathe new life into it and thats exactly whats happened. I'll mention thats exactly what happened for significantly less $$$$$$ than any (non studio) lp or high end fender which both get a trillion bland points in comparison to this
