New (used) Truck Day

Post by Lloyd Blankfein »

Ovid knows what's'a'comin' as we discussed this earlier. :fap:

Picked up this beauty today. Got a stupid deal on it. I'll take more pics when I wash it. Somebody paid for the depreciation (lulz).

I'll drive it for 8-9 months then hand it off to my ranch manager. Feelsgoodman.jpg

Now, the picture..

Nice dude.
I'm getting a 2500 tomorrow. Wish it was a diesel, but I got a great deal on it so had to jump.

You don't wanna see it right now, I've been irrigating and the truck is plastered with mud.

Deets are it's a 2002 pre-emission bs duramax diesel.

Crew cab, 4x4, obviously 2500hd. Less than 200k miles and it has been absolutely babied by an old man.

I slapped a tool box on it, and will put an offroad red diesel transfer tank in the bed.

Tint the front windows and be done. It drives flawlessly, got a set of new sneakers put on as well.

Tbh, for a 11 year-old truck, it feels and drives like a new truck. Every option imaginable (even a factory installed tape deck wtf).

Overall, very pleased. The backseat will hold my rifle so the crew was nice. Lol

Damn fine truck. The price I got it for was ridiculous.

Awesome. Glad to hear you got a pre-emission one. The Ford 7.3s are heavily sought after for the same reason. I'm all for trying to clean up emissions, but not at the expense of making diesel's overly complex and neutered.

Well, I was chasing down a 2011 F250 lariat with the 6.4 or .7 whatever.

But after going through a couple super duties oasis reports I was starting to realize every last one of them had blown cylinders or replaced exhausts, torched EGRs etc.

So I settled with, when I buy new, I'll get a superduty but for used, I'm sticking with the dmax/Allison. Just too risky to grab a superduty used.

On the new sd ill delete the DPF, block the EGR, etc.

I'm just convinced every superduty owner is a monster jam redneck that chips them and mashes the shit out of the pedal. When the truck goes boom, they sell them.

Absolute nightmares.

You're pretty much right on that. They get abused.

Avoid the 6.0 at all costs. The 6.7 is a much better motor, but doing the delete and blocking the EGR will help a ton.

A lot of guys do aftermarket tunes as well which while there are (or were, most have dried up now) some good ones, a lot of them were shitty and caused long term problems.

My cousin had an old F-350 Diesel for years and years. The old Square blocky one. Had 380k on it last time I talked to him and still used it to haul his heavy shit around (Owns a logging business so he's got lots of heavy shit) He's got a new F-350 as his daily driver but I'm pretty sure he's still got the old one.

Being as I'm from a family that logs/ranches/etc. if your truck doesn't look like this a good part of the time, IMO you're a poser.

I get more crap on my car heading over the mountain to the cabin than most folks around here get on their trucks lol

Lol, looks like my truck but worse mud blowout. My truck spends 70% of its time off road. No lift either, that's lame. Only the urban cowboys do shit like that.

I'm not a fan of tunes, lifts and all that weird shit. Just want a 4x4 diesel stock. :)

I don't know why someone spends that much on equipment only to prematurely and unnecessarily beat the shit out of it.

My old Nissan looked like shit but it ran like a new truck (it was an '89) and since it was a 2wd perversely was pretty good offroad since it was so light. I had a couple of come-alongs in the back and some sturdy ropes and chains in the cab (King Cab) and I'd just do the dueling Come-along routine and pull myself out of stuff. It's still a great truck. When I became a single dad I needed something safe and reliable for my Son to ride in so I got the Honda and gave the Nissan to my best friend who needed reliable wheels that wasn't costing him a ton of money each month. Having my first car payment in a decade sucked, but the Honda is a neat little car and it's way better for what I need now.

I saw a brand new Duramax roll out of the Stealership the other day with I'm guessing $8k worth of suspension, tires and wheels and it didn't even have plates yet. You know they're not actually gonna offroad the bloody thing because a 1-ton truck is too damn heavy to make a decent 4x4 anyway. Hilarious rolling penis extension.

Today I thought I bought the farm. Pulling a tractor on a trailer down a lateral road that was soaked with sprinklers.

2500 took it on. Turbo was whistling and 4x4 was engaged.

Made it out alright.

Nice man. I drove a F-350 with a 2 ton picker, a full set of tools and an extended flatbed around the mountain lease roads west of my hometown for a couple summers around that same era. Tried to get them to replace it with an equivalent 3500HD or 4500HD but I was just a summer student and to be fair the price tag was 15-20K less for a Ford or Dodge than for the Duramax.

One of the operator dudes out there had a 2500HD Duramax like yours... way nicer truck fit & finish-wise, and WAY nicer ride quality.

That Ford was strong as fuck though. It was 800lbs over the GVWR with nothing on it and then we used to put 9 barrels of compressor lube oil on the back at around 400-450 lbs each. One day we pulled a grader out of the ditch too, I was surprised that actually worked. Maybe not the safest thing to be overweight like that all the time but we really didn't have that many problems with it from what I can remember. Fuel pump went once on it and we had a few issues with the PTO on it too but that's almost to be expected when you're bouncing around on gravel & dirt roads for 400-600km a day.
