Even though the outcome was the worst thing possible, Mr Z. broke no laws if he had he would have gone to jail. In Florida, Texas and some other states, if you attack another citizen he (or she) just might be carrying a firearm. People have nothing to fear if they don't attack law abiding citizens.
This is very true, an armed society is a polite society.
I'm sure Martin and Zimmerman were very polite as they fought oneanother.
You're missing the point and to be honest im smelling the odor of troll off of you.
The full quote of what i posted is this:
An armed society is a polite society. Manners are good when one may have to back up his acts with his life.
It was said by Robert A Heinlein. The meaning is that if you know everyone is armed with a weapon of lethal force you will act in a more polite manner. You probably wont insult someone and get in pissing matches either, the cost could be too great.

Is that a joke?
I wouldn't think he was joking. Hospital pharmacists usually have a lot better job then a retail pharmacist (well, it actually depends on the pharmacist's point of view)

Ya the ones at the hospital I worked at had nothing good to say about retail gigs. They love their jobs, so I wasn't joking.

I get the idea behind that, because it's not hard to miss...but that sounds like the wild west!
If GZ didn't have a gun and think he's the popo, he wouldn't have gotten himself in that situation in the first place. The whole thing never would have happened if GZ didn't have a gun he didn't need.
Why do you feel he didnt need it? Its sort of obvious he needed it to defend himself.
I bolded the hypothesis
Wasnt he a member of the neighborhood watch? Doesnt their duties include......watching the neighborhood?
Yep. Watching the neighborhood. Not enforcing the laws. The name itself says it. Watch. That's what he should have been doing. If he sees anything, he calls the police and they deal with it. He's not there to bust the guy. That's the cops job.
The ONLY people that need a gun are law enforcement. Having a gun in your home is fine, though it's not something I would do as it's more likely to cause an accident than protect you. Anyone who carry's a gun with them out of their house enters the realm of total nutjob.

From what I understand, GZ actually lost site of TM. TM actually came back and attacked GZ. (All this is hearsay so I don't know if it is true or not) Either way, in the US there is a thing called citizens' arrest (not that I would attempt it or that GZ should have).
And why are you lumping everyone that carries a gun outside the home a nut job? Is it because you are Canadian? Do you guys not hunt? Do you guys not go to practice ranges? My wife used to carry a gun in her car when she traveled back and forth on a 3 1/2 hour drive that didn't have any big cities? Does that make her a nut job? I don't personally own any guns, but my wife has one (obviously). You know us South US 'Mericans are a bunch of nut jobs that love our guns and our religion

East St Louis. The bad parts of Memphis. West Memphis Arkansas. Bad parts of Louisville. Cairo Illinois. LOTS of other places.... Go thru some of those places & you might change your mind.
Or go through a natural disaster & see what kind of scumbags show up to loot your house, or steal scrap when they think no one is there. Had this happen SEVERAL times after my home was flooded in 2011. There were a few occasions when I think that the pistol & shotgun I had saved me & my wife's lives.
One of the scumbags got to have a face to face meeting with Mr.12 guage Mossberg, murdered a woman a couple of months after he showed up at my place. He beat her to death with a shovel. He coulda done that to me or my wife.

No shit. I once was driving from San Diego back to Murfreesboro, TN and took 40 on the way through. I was low on gas and needed to pull over in Memphis to get gas. But the whole trip I was listening to CDs in my CD changer and not listening to the radio. Turns out that a tropical storm had blown through a week before I got there and knocked out a shit ton of electricity making gas stations useless. People were simply sitting on their porches with knocked down trees and debris in their front yards watching people drive by. There were folks roaming the streets in groups of 7-10 people rummaging through stuff, carrying pipes and baseball bats. Freaked me the fuck out. Whitey in a town like Memphis after a storm like that...felt like I was driving through Compton at 2 AM looking like a ghost. I drove on through to Jackson on fumes.

You obviously should have just called the cops, and nicely asked him to wait outside.

I live in the woods and have regularly carried a gun outside, how in the hell does that make me a nutjob? Should i instead carry an armed police officer to protect me against bear?

I would if you were my little cousin or something. Who knows though, maybe you have special powers and can see into the future and be judge/jury/executioner proactively.

how do you know that he murdered someone? did you ask for an I.D.? and did you follow him around for 4 months after?
I agree w/you totally, but this smells a lot like urban myth.....
