The first TRUE song I ever wrote at 16, re-recorded!
So around this time, I was 16/17 by the time I finished this.. But I had been playing for years already and especially the previous 3 years or so I became that dude playing 4 hours a day, ditching school to go play, taking my guitar with me to friends house's etc... So honestly, technically I was pretty good.. Could prolly do some things better THEN than I can now. As far as pointless sweeper and the like.. So it may sound pretty nuts for a 16 yo to write this but I assure you this was written at that time (1994) and speed was the name of the game!! There are real recordings with a drummer and vocals around somewhere but I need to find em.. Would be fun to hear again.. But this song was the beginning of what is technically the same band I still sorta do these days, World of Shit..
Anyway, Im releasing something soon with that band and it just came to me to record this again with drums the way I always heard em and lets see..
I used the 5153 3l34 red channel into my STOCK Peavey 5150 cab (gasp) I used a guitar loaded with a Duncan Blackout and Ive fallen in love with how that guitar/pickup sounds thru the eve and THIS specific cab.. Its maybe a bit more old school.. But I honestly love it..

Thanks it’s fun to look back on. And re-create it if I had the best 16yo drummer ever! Lolmaggotspawn wrote:Ripping track.

Well, like I sorta clarified, it wasn’t My FIRST ever. But first song that was like, hey wait a minute I think this is bad ass! And most at the time were pretty impressed. Lol.
But it’s like back on the old HC forum and that dude Tornado of Souls couldn’t believe that I was playing the ToS solo at 15 in my high school band. So he challenged me and I said give me a day to relearn it and I shut him up pretty quick. Haha. But I look back on those days REALLY learning and finding sumthin new on the instrument with great joy. I can feel the fan in the window on a 90 degree summer day and smoking weed, sweating and jamming all day. I really didn’t think anything was better. I mean the occasional chick sucking my dick was pretty sweet! But afterwards, I’d be like, “I have about 40 minutes to jam before my parents go to sleep, sooo.. You can sit here and listen or leave.. Up to you. “. Haha I was obsessed for a few years

I like that part at 2;14 where the sound gets thin. It's like the song is pulling back a sec to punch you in the god damn face. It's a killer cue to fucking rock

haha, Well. it was an interesting dichotomy, in that the technical metal was starting to really get into high gear around this time.. Bands , for me anyhow, like Nocturnus and Atheist were huge influences, a well as a huge Morbid Angel thing..
But then Grunge was coming up ad while a lot of those dudes could really play, the aesthetic of Nirvana was, we suck and don't care!! Later on I felt more of that than I did during this time.. I say it with all honesty I could sweep and truly shred 10x better at 17 and 18 than I can now.. But now I have carpenters hands with meaty fingers and cuts and arthritis. lol. But for a period there I could really go off.. Then I realized sweeps sounded gay and whenever I used em in a song it wasn't because I really *felt it, but because it was sumthin I practiced over and over.. Id be surprised if I ever do a sweep in a song again.. So it was kinda wasted effort I the one run!
And metal Church was killer..

Felt like nothing better.. I don't even know if one could go back and do it the same cause the world has changed so much.. But now that my kids are adults and mostly moved out, I jam a lot again.. Im still jamming now!! lolRaceU4her wrote:Shit rips. I miss those summer days smoking weed and playing guitar all day

Haha thanks!, it’s totally a million miles and hour, yet these days it’s not even close. But at the time, I was trying to be the fastest. Every riff I wrote was like this. Young dumb and full of all that. Lol. But the absolute goal of this song was to be faster than anything else.
When we ACTUALLY were playing it around this time the drummer could pull off some of the blast parts but he would die out and he ended up doing some groove beats here and there which I’ve still kept at times. Since it also worked… but yeah, again it was all geared for speed. It took me til about 35 yo to finally back off the gas pedal a bit. Lol. But I’m starting to get back into it more again.

I’m not much better these days lol. As far as technically I’m no more advanced than I got at 18. In fact, I’ve surely slipped some… I’d like to think I write a little bit better songs today, but maybe that’s debatable too. But revisiting this has sorta rejuvenated some old part of me that is fun to bring back forward again. Cause TO ME, this has a little more fun to it. Our objective for this band was to be Morbid Angel but have it somehow be fun like Van Halen.. And some of early songs I honestly think accomplished it. Our first true demo we did in 2002, actually didn’t include this song, was somewhat well received in the underground. And then our 2nd demo did ok too and then sadly my counterpart pretty much starting shitting the bed in regards to getting shit done. It’s sucks looking back cause I really wish we put in more effort. Or I should say HE did! Lol.

Re: The first TRUE song I ever wrote at 16, re-recorded!
Doubt anyone is interested. But I always had a plan to record my other cab and pick the better of the two.. This cab is one I built and has the current EVH Celestion g12 (also some mesa v30) but I only mic the EVH.. And 1, they were suprinsingly close with the same sm7b and sm57 mics to the PV Sheffield 1200 spkrs.. In fact, I ended up liking the PV Sheffield cab better.. Some weird resonance I didn't pick up while recording my cab and when I eq'd it out it felt unnatural... SO then I remembered how much I used to like the akg414 with the Sennheiser 421 combo... My last thrash EP was done with this setup and I always felt it was as "real" of a tone of the amp I can get and still have the cut and aggression I want.. Cause sometimes with the evh el34 AND sm57s , or similar, its just too much in the mids.. It cuts for sure.. But its something I usually have to keep a keen ear on ... Anyway, I brought out the 414/421 and it indeed sounds more real and a much more honest representation of the amp.. Its still brutal I think but its a bit warmer/clearer.. Used my Strat with the Antiquity JB, guitar is magic with that pickup.. And my Wolfgang with the current Evh pickups.. It obviously blends well with these amps.. the left and Right channels are the Red channel of the amp and I did a blue channel center track with the gain rolled back to basically hot 800 levels to add a bit of punch and definition..All straight in, no boosts on either..
