Compressor questions
So how many of y’all can’t do without a compressor? If that’s you, what’s your compressor of choice?

Re: Compressor questions
it's a must have if you play mostly clean tones. There are a few different types of compressor. If you want something clean and precise the Cali 76, Keeley and the Boss are great. For a compressor with "color" the MXR Dyna Comp is a classic.

Re: Compressor questions
I like my Keely Compressor Plus, I wanted something with a blend knob because I like dialing in more of my dry sound. I run it in the front of my chain. I have an old Boss compressor, but was too noisy and colored my tone too much, even after modding it

Re: Compressor questions
could I play without one? sure..... do I want to? No..not with my current rig
I use the Xotic SP Compressor and use it more or less as a clean boost to push my already driven plexi clone a little harder.... it's nice because I can get more sustain without a ton more gain in my tones, so it's great for lower gain lead tones or when I'm playing rhythm parts that just need a little more push to them.... I tend to leave the blend in the middle so I still get my attack and once I hold a note the compressor takes over

Re: Compressor questions
I gig with an EQD Speaker Cranker that adds compression.
When I play slide, I compress the H-E-double-toothpicks out of it with an EQD Warden.
The Warden is an optical compressor so it's a bit less percussive and with 6 knobs, it's flexible.

Re: Compressor questions
I have an old school Ibanez CPL that is first in my chain and always on.
