NAD

Post by boris the blade »

The Laney has arrived! Haven't toyed with it too much yet as I have stuff going on at the house, but so far I am liking what I am hearing. Starts to crunch up at about 2.5 on the volume knob, and sounds great with a rangemaster! I do need to fiddle a bit more with the knobs. Unfortunately I don't have an SG, but I feel like I can get close to Iommi tones with my current guitars. Good enough. :hi5:

Sorry for the crappy pic :)

Hell yeah! You got that bad boy quickly. How loud is at 2.5? Crazy loud or manageable?

Yeah super fast! Very haappy! :D At 2.5 it is pretty damn loud, I'd say manageable but the earlier breakup is certainly welcome. I just hit it with my rangemaster clone and its got plenty of volume and the perfect amount of drive. The Mojave doesn't really start to break up until about 4 and by then its insanely loud. Honestly the Laney would easily do it for me, enough volume and sounds great. I'd offload the mojave but I don't think it would sell locally since hardly anyone knows about them. And I am too paranoid to ship an amp.

I should record a clip, but I suck. :o

There was one of those Laneys for sale locally not too long ago. I just love the way it looks. Enjoy!

Thanks dudes! Gonna fire it up again today with some extensive playing and will report back! It does kind of have a grainy, almost wooly sound. A bit bass heavy, but paired with a boost of some sort, in my case using a rangemaster its like a perfect match.

Spawn I'd love to head over and try it with the SG ! :rawk:

Just an iphone clip with the Iron man riff would be cool :) Nobody sucks, we're just at different places in our guitar journey ;)

So I had the chance to play it with another guitar player and hard hitting drummer. I had the volume at about 3, strymon deco tape saturation side on for a little "more" and rangemaster. It sounded awesome, but the other guitar player kept telling me to turn it down  He was playing thru a boss katana 50w combo and his amp could not keep up i guess, and he said it was too loud even with ear plugs in. I brought it down to 1 and it sounded like crap, because a rangemaster with a clean amp just does not sound great. He even said it sounded bad, but I had no choice but to deal with it. I wanted it louder, because the drummer hits hard. But I had to play at the damn thing where it just did not sound that great. ugh lol oh well

Wow. What a fucking pile of fail. Not on your end but the other 2 couldn't either play quieter or bring an appropriate sized amp?

I know everyone raves about Katanas around here but the handful of times I've jammed with Katana peope its like they may has well been playing one of those cigarette pack amps. Not impressed.

Ditch that player or make him play your mojave next time
