Oh, and start applying for scholarships NOW If you decide to go to college. If you can get someone else to pay for it, the value proposition shifts dramatically in favor of college!
Re: College for Electrical Engineering???
Screw a 4 year degree.
Take a few electronics classes at your local CC.
Join electrician union
Become an apprentice
Become a journeyman
Travel the States (or world) working in power plants, particularly nuke plants during outages.
Profit mightily.

Re: College for Electrical Engineering???
My impression of engineering is that it is crazy hard and you usually won't get mega-rich but you're pretty much assured of a chance at a decent job.
As far as union guys, the skilled electricians I have run into are their own bosses and generally happy dudes. They work close to home, set their own hours, and have hourly rates that rival many professionals with two or three times as much schooling.
I'd keep an open mind though. It's not all about getting a job. Something like physics might capture your interest, and it's always good to learn to write well and stuff like that. One of my friends went into scientific writing and was doing ok but hated it, dropped it and became a really successful pharmacist.

Re: College for Electrical Engineering???
Interesting thread. People equating electrical engineering to being an electrician give me a bit of a chuckle. One's generally a desk job and the other is a labourer job. It's one thing to design an electrical system and quite another to install one.
