Jaws (original) - 8/10

The scene with Quint talking to Martin about the USS Indianapolis is awesome.

I deducted two points because Chief Brody didn't know the story. Seems implausible...

I've never seen Jaws 3. I'm guessing there's a reason why it's doesn't cycle around often as a re-run

I've never seen Jaws 3. I'm guessing there's a reason why it's doesn't cycle around often as a re-run

iirc; it's the first Jaws film I watched  as such; I LOVE it. I see it on a fair bit of things. I don't have re-run capability but it's on a number of streaming spots from time to time. Basically; it's the blueprint for Deep Blue Sea.

Jaws 2 is ok. Mainly because of the cast. 4 is an abomination. But mayyyyyybe good for a laugh depending on how much patience you have for garbage lol?

My tolerance is pretty low for garbage unless there's something else significant to keep my attention. Since we're talking sharks, "Into the Blue" with Jessica Alba supports my point. Storyline: 6, Plausibility: 4, significant ASSets that make everything else palatable: 10. The visuals are spectacular :thu:

Suicide Squad - 7/10

Shit all over the first one. Idris was a badass, Harley was good, Sylvester Stallone as King Shark was pretty funny.

The Easter eggs were awesome, and a lot of the one liners got me.

Wondered about this. Thought it would be good but something in the trailer made me quesiton it. Will give it a watch.

Watched Val on Prime a weekish ago. Doc about Val Kilmer. Surprisingly great, albeit a little biased as to be expected.

PIG 8/10

I was very pleasantly surprized to see Nicholas Cage in a diluted version of his signature "somebody killed my loved one after gang raping and sacrificing her to the devil, so I'ma gonna get even!" plot.

Really pretty good movie! I had no idea where the plot was going to go.

Malignant. I was bored/10

Literally, the worst premise I have seen in a long time. It started off somewhat interesting I suppose. The acting and script was atrocious, but then it went quickly south. This would have been a great 80's B movie like Basketcase or something, but the way this was presented, it's just so very terrible. Another James Wan atrocity.

Don't Breathe 2

I kinda liked the first one for what it was. This one wasn't as good. It wasn't good.

We watched Malignant yesterday and thought it was funny as all get-out. Though, you could tell that's not what they were going for. It's like a tragically comedic attempt at sooper srs hrrrorororror. We kept laughing and sharing things that were played for comedy in other horror shows and movies. So many cliches.

I popped off, "'It's time to. . . CUT OUT. . . the cancer' is no "it's time to slice and dice!" and my wife proceeded to laugh so hard she had to run to the bathroom. That second line came from a Supernatural episode where the whole thing was set up as a comedy take on the slasher genre, with the title character of Dean's favorite slasher movies coming to life. Dean was fan-girling so hard he almost couldn't kill the creature. "THAT'S THE LINE! HE SAID THE LINE!"

I suppose it's main value to us is the fact that it was literally a horror fan's trope and cliche buffet. The effects were pretty stupid in some parts too. They could have done a better job of the girl's face as a mask on the back of the Gabriel's head. The pathetic reasoning at the end setting up the obvious sequel attempt was bullshit. I mean, sure, she/he sliced up an entire police precinct. I'm sure they'll just let her/him get away with it.

We watched it Friday night. I have been looking forward to it for a bit. Odd film. Acting and script were initially atrocious; yet it supposedly meant to be that way?

I enjoyed it when they went full gonzo and just dropped any sort of trying to be a serious horror movie pretense. So essentially the police station scenes and anything with Gabriel in it. I read Wan had deemed it his sort of love letter to giallo and while I didn't necessarily catch that at first; it became more apparent as it went on. I thought the premise once fully explained was dumb as f but as could have been really good if they embraced that cheese fully.

Cry Macho

Really wanted to like this but just felt that it lacked any sort of peaks and valleys; extremely anticlimactic. I don’t regret watching it but it isn’t one of his better movies, but to be fair, nobody is expecting 91 year old Clint to be out there gunslinging and beating the shit out of people. Where Gran Torino and The Mule had him as more of a no fucks given, playing with house money character, this one seemed much more bland and wholesome.

I think Cry Macho is just Eastwood glad to still be alive making movies. Didn't love it; didn't hate it. But liked it because it's Eastwood.

I saw the previews and, despite normally digging Hugh Jackman in most things; knew it would be a pass. SciFi like this either has to be flawless elite level or it's going to suck.

Still waiting on The Night House to pop up somewhere. "In theaters" for like a week (probably because I live in the sticks) yet not on VOD anywhere. I'll pay for the d@mn thing for god's sake!

8.5/10 Give it an extra point if you can trade a weak script for some seriously fun ultra-violence.
