I run twice a week, 3mi / 5km - sometimes 6mi / 10km. I workout 3 days a week, fourth day is dedicated to abs/stretching. I focus on compound, bench, squat, deadlift, row. But I do add some isolated exercises such as shoulders on deadlift day and biceps/triceps on back/chest day.

Diet: I eat 80% plant-based. I try to consume as much veggies as possible but the core of my diet revolves around legumes, nuts, rice and fruit. I also supplement with vegan protein powder, just 25g a day.

Overall I feel great, considering I am going through separation right now. Was 245lbs at xmas, currently 198lbs. Goal is 180 - which should get me close to a 6 pack. I'm 5'9, but 180 is a healthy weight for my build.

I turn 54 today so, yeah, old. Fortunately I have excellent genetics so most people think I am about 10 years younger and I am in decent health.

I have always hated exercise but have slowly begun introducing 15-20 minutes on the elliptical every morning but even that has been sporadic. But I have recently lost about 8 lbs.

I detest cardio. I hate it. HATE. IT. But I force myself to get on that damn rowing machine for about 30 minutes because I can't argue with the results. But I mean, even with music coming through the AirPods, it is a mind-numbing, monotonous 30 minutes.

I hate cardio in the gym or on a machine. Surfing, swimming, cycling and even walking are a completely different matter. I can do them every day. I guess I just have to be outside for my cardio. If we are having a particularly bad Winter, I will break out my stationary trainer and set up my road bike on it. But I absolutely detest it. It is so painfully boring to sit there.

Yeah, I can walk around our subdivision to the tune of about 5 miles, no problem. It's time consuming, but not nearly as boring as that rowing machine. I mean, I do it most days, but I dread it every day, and am glad when it's over.

"Outside" holds no appeal to me.
Plus I am 24/7 with my kids so I have to squeeze it in at home whenever I can.

Depending on traffic, I have a 45 to 90 minute drive to work then, I sit at a desk for 8 hours . After work, I have a 45-90 minute drive home. Sometimes, that's 12 hours a day sitting!!! If i don't jog, my lower back muscles atrophy and it feels like someone is sticking an ice pick in my spine. The pain can be absolutely incapacitating. Jogging strengthens my lower back, releases endorphins and makes me a happy camper.
Jogging is the only way I know how to keep my lower back muscles in shape. If any of you guys know of any other way... PLEASE LET ME IN ON IT!!!

For me it's crunches. Not even full sit-ups. Just lots and lots of crunches to sorta balance the muscles.
Granted, I also do as much walking as I can fit in a day. The dogs usually give us a couple miles a day and then when I'm able to carve out an hour or so I'll go for a brisk walk/almost jog for four to five miles.

Crunches! I will give that a try. :hi5:

K-Bizzle wrote:Proper kettle bells swings and reasonably weighted properly done deadlifts will make the lower back built out of steel my man.
Just use light weight and proper form to start.

I spent 4 hours carrying buckets of rainwater out of my basement this past weekend.
I'm sore but, my back is feeling good!!!
Going to look into kettle ball swings to see what that's all about.
Thanks!!!! :thu:

Yeah, I just turned 46, and could pass for probably 35 or so. The fact that I never had kids certainly aids that, most likely.
