Collaborated on a couple beats/loops with DJ Jr.

Post by Ostinato Rubato »

On Father's Day last weekend I did dad things with kiddos. Jam session with the boys. Scootering with the girl. Archery with Shirtless Jr. and beat collab with DJ Jr.

Just a couple of loops...

He wrote the chord progression, drums and bass, and I added the arpeggiated keys and another chord support element on this one.

I wrote the chord progression, low register melody, and he did the drums and bass on this one.

Thanks dudes!

I’m trying to get him to make some of these beat ideas into more complete arrangements. He’s getting good at intros but still struggles with B sections that aren’t just and octave change with the same drum pattern. But little by little my little hommie’s skills keep growing. There are aspects to this that he’s good at that are beyond my skill level at this point, particularly in working with and tweaking/editing samples. His drum patterns for hip hop are way beyond what I do.

Super pro sounding!!!! Talent is in the jeans... oops! I meant, genes!

After you get 10 or 12 of these, contact Kanye and offer them for $15K each, upfront, royalty free, must have partial songwriting credit.
Let him talk you down to $8-12K each. :thu:

:hi5:

He was starting to talk to kids at his middle school who rap that he was going to try working with but it was tricky to get anything going since it was a weird year. He's going in to high school now so he'll probably make some connections with some young MCs who will need a producer.

I've been telling him that we should start to put vocals on these beats even if they're just rough sketches and scratch takes, whether its him rapping or me, or me helping him write raps that he raps, so he can start to get that other layer of skills with recording and editing vocals.

He also recently bought this DJ deck that arrived over the weekend and today is the first day he's going to start learning how to use it. He has a cousin who does the DJ thing and he got inspired at a family party that the kid was DJing. I'm gonna need a DJ eventually for the electronic/synthwave stuff so maybe he can be my guy. :D
