Something Different - Insert Yourself in a Historical Band

Post by IndyWS6 »

If you could go back in time and be a founding or contributing member of any rock band in history (still touring or not), which one would you choose - and at what position? Skip past the obvious (EVH, Page, Clapton, etc.) and dig a little :)

I'm going to be Tommy Skeoch in Tesla (on a more sober level). My favorite rock band. They have been grinding it out in true rock fashion for decades. Great songs, great talent and just, you know, fun. That shit matters :thu:

Tom Keifer because he upstaged the fuck out of Bon Jovi on part of the Slippery When Wet tour. And he’s got such a cool voice.

That was my first concert without parents. Cinderella rocked the fuck out the place and Bon Jovi simply couldn’t follow them. Expectations blown to bits.

Ian Hill in Judas Priest. Not technically great but gets the job done in some of metals most iconic songs. Plus, sharing the stage with Downing, Tipton, and Halford.

Guitar in Dio's band would be my dream gig musically speaking. So that would be Vivian Campbell's original role.

hmmmmmmm...... First choice I'd would love to be a 2nd guitarist in Alice in Chains or Pink Floyd since those are just my favorite bands....... but I'd likely be just as happy in Pearl Jam or STP

Very interesting question. I think there are more bands that I could do it for than bands I would actually be interested in doing it for.

Perhaps Gary Moore in the "rock era" (1980-89)

I’d probably be Pat Smear.
Founding member of The Germs, was in Nirvana, and gets to sloppily play the easy parts in Foo Fighters while somehow looking and acting younger than any of the other guys in the band despite being 10 years or so their senior.

Dude lived a crazy life in music.
Guitars:

Cabs:
Bogner 4x12, Bogner OS 2x12, Randall MTS 2x12, Eden D410XLT

I'm kind of surprised his name came up, but not disappointed. That dude looks like he's having a blast every time I see a Foo video. :thu:

I'm honestly surprised I said it myself but he's who I came to when I really thought about it.
I mean unlike Dave Grohl he can probably walk down most streets and largely go unnoticed and like you said he always looks like he's having a great time and I'm sure the money relative to effort ain't bad either.

I don't think I'd play guitar.

I'd probably be the keyboard player in Strapping Young Lad.

Plus lots of cool guitars thru the years as well as being personal friends with Ringo and Frank Stallone. I'd say ol' Mikey did pretty well for himself.

I didn't even think of not playing guitar.
Can I change my answer to being Mario Duplantier?

Exactly this. I will add Rudy Sarzo as another choice
