Looking at an 08 with 90k miles. Every option and good condition.

Other than timing belt around 100k (hoping it’s already been done) and the rear air suspension I’m not seeing a lot of downsides to this truck

We were looking for a Landcruiser for a third vehicle but damn they hold their value well. The gx470 was suggested as it’s a taller v8 4 runner. Same drivetrain and capability but lower resale and nice features. Whatever I’ll take it.

We put an offer of $14k in. We’ll see what they say

My dad drives a GX470. I'm not sure what year it is, but he had it for a long time now... Maybe 2010? Anyway, he loves it and had almost no issues with it.
I'll ask him the year and mileage but I'd say go for it, they're solid vehicles.

Moms got the 2014 GX460.....digs it, and uses it all the time to haul her trailer/camper deal. I helped her pick it out, she was running thru a few different trucks and that's the one she landed on. Been a few years, no issues beyond basic maintenance.

one of my rules is to not buy any luxury/computer heavy vehicle with over 100,000 miles - so you are very close to that.

Other than that - 90,000 mille 10 year old vehicle for $14,000? - don't think so.

It will run another 200k if normal maintenance is done. It's a Toyota man

Strong pass. I want to keep vehicles for 5-7+ years. Something that is already that old would most likely have major repairs in that time.

Get a newer Ford or Honda.

I have a newer Honda for daily driving. She has a Camry.

This truck isn’t for daily driving. It’s going to be a third vehicle used for towing, trails, camping and longer trips with the kids.

These are rebadged Landcruiser Prados. The biggest issue seems to be the rear air suspension going out but I’ll be replacing it immediately with an Old Man Emu lift which converts the rear to coils.

Other than that it’s the Toyota driveline found in the Land Cruiser, Prado, LX470, V8 4 Runner. These vehicles routinely cross the 300k mile mark with no major issues.

This is my goal for it

The Lexus part has no bearing other than they don’t have quite the rabid fan base driving up resale like the Toyota version.

You know how we feel about ten year old luxury vehicles and living beyond pay grade. Dwavne approved.

It won’t be very luxurious after I own it.

This is going to be a toy for me.

I had a 2007 for 10 years and it was the finest vehicle I ever owned. It was driven to the keys and back from Illinois every year, then spent 5 months sitting 50 yards from the ocean. It ran like brand new up until the day I traded it in. Maintenance isn't cheap, but these things are bulletproof. I also drive like I am riding a skateboard and it took it all in stride.

I talked to my dad today... His car is a 2010 he bought it new and it has 145k miles now. He had zero issues with it other than the scheduled service/maintenance.

Noice, I appreciate the firsthand knowledge. Any offload adventures with it or modifications?

Thanks,

Thanks for asking about it, man! People seem to hold on to them for quite a while, so as a third vehicle it should last us quite some time.

I've got an '03 Sequoia (I'm a surveyor, I use it for work) with 234000 miles on it. Runs like a top.
Besides regular maintenance and 2 plug/wire changes, I've done nothing. Fuckers are beastly.

That’s running the same drivetrain as the Lexus were looking at and thank you for first hand knowledge :)

I actually prefer the looks of the Toyota but it’s much easier to find perfectly maintained and not abused units from Lexus. The Toyota crowd is intense. The Landcruisers and LX470 (Lexus Landcruiser) are selling for $10-20k for units over 200k miles. Originally I wanted a solid axle 95-97 LX450 with the solid front axle and I6 engine but these really command a premium. Mileage doesn’t even factor in to resale value it seems.

Is that what you sold to buy your Truck? Why’d you sell it off? Looks really nice and is the same chassis as the LX470.

Killing me on gas mileage. 20 mpg was it's best. I really wish I would have kept it and got a small sedan for the mileage thing. I got more compliments on this SUV than any vehicle I've ever owned. SNOW ... ha LOL with this baby.

Also, one thing I didn't like ... The headroom. I'm only 5'9" and I would hit my head sometimes getting in and out. Big complaint on this year. Maybe they still are this way?

Yeah, I read the biggest downside of the GX470 is the fuel efficiency, as the V8 and AWD add up to 14 city and 18mpg highway. I'll be adding a small suspension lift to remove the rear air bags, and bigger tires so I have no doubt mpg will suffer even more.

The GX470 is 3" taller than the equivalent 4 Runner which is the only structural difference between the 2 so headroom isn't an issue. They're ROOMY inside for the 1st and 2nd rows. 3rd row not so much but the only ones that will ride back there are my 5 and 7 year olds.

We already have sedans for daily driving to work and normal kid duties. The GX470 will be for camping, towing a small boat, and for the weekends we have all 3 kids and want to do activities with the whole family. This will not be a daily driver at all, and entirely for recreation. Long term goal is to use it as an expedition type rig for camping/trails.

Pilot is heading out the door. Great vehicle but essentially a front wheel drive minivan. Served our daily needs well but we're looking for a more rugged truck based SUV with actual 4 wheel drive/low range. In addition, we analyzed how often we needed 3 rows and it's not often. Most of the time we just drive to work, and pick up kids from school. Unless all 5 of us are in the car, 3 rows is unnecessary.

- Dropping $35k vehicle with car payment.
- Added a paid off used Camry for daily driving.
- Adding the GX, which will also be paid in cash, for the few times we need 3 rows AND for recreational use.

gAH. who the fuck ditches a perfectly good Pilot when they have three kids and Suckvalve to cart around and replaces it with a shitty old Camry and a ten year old luxury vehicle?

You know what, you deserve this.

You were not fit to handle this much Honda.

All joking aside, the Pilot is great but dedicated vehicles for each purpose is going to work out better for us now that we have significantly more disposable income.

Plus white trashing a Lexus is going to be the best. The 4.7 with a flowmaster exhaust will be wonderful.

Sounds like a great plan to me with no downsides. :idk:

The GX will be more than enough for occasional use, possibly even more comfortable. And no car payments.

Do you sometimes wish you could back into a drive thru window and have a burger hurled into the back of your neck? Because aside from that :idk:

This one does not have that option unfortunately lol

but the GX has a third row of seats for my boys that only the top tier 4 Runner has.

I know the Yota guys used to roll it down when they were out wheeling and shit but the general consensus on the yota/gx forums is that no one misses it when they upgrade to the Lexus. :D

I'd prefer the rear hatch of the 4 Runner overall, but the barn door on the GX will suffice.

Look at the 4 runner than the corresponding Lexus. May find similar results to what I see down here in Texas. Can get fewer miles, more amenities, and same V8/awd drivetrain for less money.

I wish my Sequoia had a tailgate instead of hatch.
Working out in the field, tailgates make great tables and seats. :D

Yeah the split Landcruiser design is great! Tailgate swings down for table/seat and top half opens for easy access.

the side opening barn door is just... not amazing

I was folding up the 3rd row seats last night and the gotdamn thing caught the wind and slammed in to me

It's not a shitty Dodge, so no.

Think more Aussie Outback and less Alabama. Aussies are kick ass at being rednecks.

I didn't say they were classy at all. They're rednecks.

They just know better than to buy shitty Dodges. Aussies are one of the biggest groups that modify the Toyota Landcruiser Prado 120. America doesn't get that exact model, and instead fancied it up as this GX470.

It's my goal to de-class it down and go Aussie redneck on it. Aussie rednecks are awesome. Dodges suck.
