I'm building a 412 cab. It's based on the orange 412 with a slight personal touch. So far it's looks great.

However, I can't seem to find the tolex (panama black) and grill cloth (cane) that I need for this project. So my questions are as follows:

1) Should I buy a long roll of tolex for the sides or separate sheets? And where can I get them? I live in Brunei.

2) What type of cane does Orange use? I'm thinking of weaving my own grill cloth if I could find the right materials.

3) Is it necessary to have a wooden block to keep the back panel in phase?

While waiting for the missing pieces, I think I'll start with the front frame of the cab.

I think any generic basket weave grill cloth will be close enough.

How deep is your cab?
Looks a little shallow compared to an Orange, but could just be the picture.

it's a foot long, just a few inches shy from an orange

yeah - that's 2" or 3" - it's gonna make a big difference in the resonance/response of the cab.
How thick is the baffle and back panel - what material?
Is the rest of if all 3/4" voidless ply?
Do you have a center brace to the back panel?
(wait - I see you asked that - yes, it is important for a cab to stay tight, and not be boomy)

These all make a difference - even the bracing in the corners of the cab makes a difference.

Yes, the plys are over 1/2" thick. Not sure with the baffle though, looks like mdf. I see where you're going . . . thicker & less wobble.

yeah - I'm not trying to rain on your parade - but there are a lot of intangibles with building a cab - hard to nail down exactly what gives a certain cab it's sound.

The cab internal volume, the baffle, the back panel, the internal bracing, the plywood type - all affect the punch and resonance of the cab. Front mounted speakers sound different than rear mounted. Series wiring sounds

Even if you physically copied a cab EXACTLY - the type of wood used would make a difference.

Thanks for the info on the basket weave gc. I zoomed into a high quality picture from orange and it was the same one.
