Do you try to mash it into 4/4 or do you just go with the flow and leave it as is?

Is this a good place for these types of questions? Not sure this is really a lesson.

I generally record it, then dick around with it trying to mash it into 4/4 only to learn that I ruined it most of the time. Or made a new riff that will work within the same song as well.

Mashing into 4/4 really only works if you wrote a groove in 2/4 or 12/8. But if it's a 3 beat or triplet feel then you're probably derpin' things.

Expand your metric sensibilities. Embrace 3,5,7, and 13 beat feelz......

I've been accidentally writing riffs in 6/8 a lot lately. I like the feel of 6/8 and it seems to work well with riffs in 4/4. Like the verse will be 6/8 and the chorus in 4/4.

I wrote a groove in 13/8 recently. It was accidental, but I liked the feel anyway and decided to keep it 13/8. Cause there's a beat that could easily be cut out to make it a normal 12/8, but why do that?
