Good afternoon,

My vacation is off to a good start, even if I didn't do the one thing I wanted to do (brew a batch of beer). I did, however, flip a few pedals, and got this, in partial trade:

It's a Mesa Boogie Son of Boogie.

It sounded great at the store, and I imagine it will sound pretty good at home, through my THD cab.

Thank you.

It always amazes me when these guys want to tell "their side of the story"

News flash: your product IS your side of the story. It tells everything we need to know.

1. My first attempt at homebrewing in over two years is fermenting now. I'll know in a few weeks whether or not it will be successful.
2. I don't know what this amp is. I've read that it was Mesa's first attempt at a reissue of the Mark I, and that because it was released concurrently with the Mark II, it wasn't particularly successful. I've also read that it was more Fender Bassman-derived than Princeton. I don't know if any of this is true, but it is a nice amp.
3. The THD 2x12 is MUCH louder than the Marshall 4x10 I used at the shop. I had to adjust my settings accordingly.
4. In my research, I've also read that the SOB isn't a particularly popular Mesa, and that it isn't a good metal amp. I might just post some clips, to demonstrate otherwise. I just need to set up my mic.

Thank you.

1. My beer is almost done conditioning (the act of post-secondary fermentation, where the goal is for the residual yeast to produce carbon dioxide); it'll be ready to drink Sunday, which I will not do. I get to wait. It's supposedly a clone of Pliny the Elder, a IIPA from Russian River Brewing; PTE isn't distributed in Minnesota, so unless I go to northern California, I can't have the real thing.
2. I think I cracked the amp tone code: My Lambeth does straight ass-kicky rock brilliantly, but at eviction volumes. My THD can do Madison Square Bedroom, but its tone really shines at the higher volumes. My Mesa can do Mesa like a champ, and, after dialing it in to my THD cab, I've got it. I left a voicemail to Petaluma; maybe, a cap replacement, and its thirty-plus year refresh, will make a great, underappreciated amp, and turn it into a killing machine.
3. I am still waiting for an IC puller to come in - should be Wednesday. The NOS Team 7-Eleven Cycling gloves and musette will be in on Tuesday. Hopefully, it will mean my Morley will be fixed. I'll grab my Fluke meter, and a set of schematics, and see if I have any continuity or power supply issues.
